If you eliminate the Federal Welfare system for Congressmen and Senators and make every raise they get subject to approval of the people in a general election, that would save Billions of $.

I totally agree! This is a gold mine for those who go to either the Senate or Congress. Both houses had the right to set their own pay scale but not to set themselves above the people who they represented. In other words, they were not to be made rich by service to this country. This is what they have done. By electing their own pay scale they have made themselves richer then most of the people they are supposed to serve. How can they serve the middle class & poor when they don't know what it is like to live those lives of just getting by without having money to save for old age! To serve was an honor, not a free ride; as it is now. There is nothing in the Constitution that states they shall be entitled to receive any pay after leaving office. They are not to be privilidged to free health care for life; none of the perks they now have given themselves at great cost to the American public. This should no be allowed to continue. Read the Constitution & you will find a way to stop these people. Rather a radical way, but it can be done, if we have the will to do so. If we will turn off the TV & do a little thinking we can change the way our government works against us. A provision was provided in the Constitution, we should use it!
