I had a long and distressing discussion last night with a neighbor in my apartment building over just this sort of thing....it seems that one of the BIG things that reinforces the whole "Greed is Good" mentality, wherein you just *take* (or steal from others) what you want, rather than trying to *earn* it courtesy of what you have yourself to bring to the table, is the notion that "people are disposable" or that "people without their material wealth are worthless". In short, ideas that first got pronounced on the air by Ronald Reagan, and then seized on by an ad-happy Media for the next 26 years or so....
So does that hold true for you? Do you buy into it? Do you see yourself as worthless, as a person? Are you just the sum total of all the pretty toys you have? Or of all the advantages you started out in life with courtesy of your parents?
I am asking this because it seems like a pretty big thing...maybe the big thing that is ruining our nation and culture. Thank you!
