i believe in them. marriage licenses are a state issued certificate. religious beliefs are sperate and have no merit in the issue. the separation between church and state should ensure that.

Homosexuality is normal and natural, linked to biology and seen in nature. Why shouldnt it seem legitimate to the "youth"? No doubt some of them are homosexual or are going to be, and why put them under even more unnecessary stress? - they already have a suicide rate four times higher than straight teens. Its not a threat to anyone.

In fact research has shown that men who are straight and are not homophobic have no significant levels of arousal when shown homosexual erotica whereas straight men who are homophobic show some arousal to homosexual erotica furthering the idea that homophobia is rooted in fear of one's own desires.

Homosexuals arent out to convert anyone and dont get turned on by every person they see anymore than straight people do. Its not a mental illness or disease. It is a genetic thing that has biological factors.

Granting homosexuals the right to marry is not taking away from other people's rights, there is no way that someone else's marriage- whom you dont even know affects the status of yours.

Marriage does not have a strict 3000 year history, it is a societal institution that has changed many many times over the course of that time. It has been done for money, power, it can be arranged it can be for love. The different types and changes are so numerous it would difficult to record them all. It used to be illegal if it was interracial- people made the same arguments against interracial marriage that that are being made against same-sex marriage.

For those who support civil unions/legal protection and not marriage:
And why not civil unions? People ask. well for married people, why did you choose to get married and not just live together? Why did you choose to get married over drafting your own contract that gave you similar arrangements that just fell short of marriage? Why get married at all? If you had the choice between marriage and a civil union which would you choose?
If you answer these yourself you will find that those reasons are very similar to the reasons homosexuals give for wanting to get married.

and contrary to what some people think, including ann coulter. most gay people are not gay because they want to avoid settling down and be bachleors forever. Plenty of gay people want to be single and then one day settle down with the right person- shockingly similar to what most straight people want. Plus if what coulter said is true then hwo do you explain people clamoring to get married, have a house and raise kids and otherwise lead very normal average lives?

no huge group is clamoring to marry multiple people (most of the people who practice polyamory are right wing ultra "christian" conservatives in rural Arizona and Utah, not mainstream people). No one wants to marry their pet, that is simply idiotic. The change would be not that great, two people love eachother to people want to be committed for life, they marry- really no big deal.

The Bible says a lot of things. [Nevermind that this is a state issue so religious teachings should not have bearing in this debate] the Bible says that prostituition and adultery should have the death penalty. The Bible also includes stoning, slavery and incest, and does not always classify those things as wrong. The Bible you may believe is the word of God but it was undeniably written by man. Perhaps it is time people realize that it is not meant to be taken literally and that we have disregarded many things from it and this should be one of those things.

always bombed- what staistics do you use to back your false claims? I do not think the majority of straight maintsream people believe that homosexuality is depraved. It is not true that homosexuality is against all religions, there are churches that believe in and support homosexuals.

Its an issue of civil rights- i think it will be resolved relatively soon and will one day be looked at in the same way we quzzically look at the fuss over interracial marriage.

The only reason why homosexuals want to marry is to get some validation from mainstream heterosexual society that the lifestyle they lead is equal to heterosexual living.

Meanwhile, the majority of heterosexuals think that homosexuality is depraved and immoral and should not be given any validity in our society.

Civil Unions are a better idea. Heterosexual couples also choose to be married in courthouses, let the state make "civil unions" - it's the same thing. A marriage license is nothing more than a contract, why can't they go to an attorney, make it a flat rate like $50 bucks to draw up a simple "civil union" document then go to the courthouse and have a ceremony by a judge.

I think that's a decent compromise.

Marriage in the "religious" sense is governed by a church/synagogue and you cannot force a religion to change it's rules to suit homosexuals when that goes against their beliefs.

I think Civil Unions is the ONLY solution to this issue.

Homosexuality goes against religions, so there is no reason to change church laws about marriage.

Allow the state to regulate it by issuing Civil Union certificates.

They can have whoever they want to "marry" them in a ceremony at a location of their choice, or go to the courthouse.

I am against the use of marriage to describe same-sex arrangements. Marriage is defined in the Bible as being between a man and a woman. Therefore, an arrangement other than that of a man and a woman, cannot be marriage. My marriage license says "Holy Matrimony". What is described in the Bible as an abomination can hardly be "holy".

The Gay & Lesbians want you to believe they are victims because people don't want their arrangment to be called marriage. But the fact is, whatever legal rights they want can be done by any competent lawyer.

While I believe that marriage is an institution established by God; an institution that only a male and female may be a participant I do recognize the human right of homosexuals to want to identify themselves as a couple. Therefore, I support civil unions. This provides legal rights but doesn't equate with marriage.

Do I believe in same-sex marriages? No.

Do I think that same-sex couples should be allowed the same rights as a married couple? Yes.

I believe if same-sex couples are in a committed long term relationship, they should be able to do things like put their partner on their medical insurance (like a spouce), if there are children involved- guardianship or custody issues could be eliminated.,,,etc.

I don't believe it should be called a marriage. Perhaps "legal life-partners" or something like that.

I don't think people view marriage as the "holy union" anymore- divorce rates, cheating spouces, and unwed parents are proof of this.

I think if we expand civil partnerships to homosexual marriage or lesbian marriage there will be no end to the redefinition of marriage. Next it will be three people in a marriage. After that people will want to marry pets. You see if you change the definition then there is no definition and its open to interpretation.

I also think it will send the wrong message to kids. Marriage isn't something to be used to make homosexual people seem more legitimate in the eyes of others, especially the youth.

I honestly don't understand why so many people have such strong opions about this! How does a couple being wed affect anyone -- it doesn't matter if it's a man and a woman or two men or two women. I say just let it be -- it doesn't affect me any, and if it makes others happy who am I to deny happiness. Why should the government need to even be involved?

If two people of the same sex wish to be married I don't see a problem. If they love one another they should have the right to wed.
