30,000 children die every day because of povety.

To provide clean water, sanitation, education and medicine to all in poverty, it would cost $30 billion. The U.S. spends that on NASA over the course of two years.

I have bought over 5 years worth of M.R.E.'s and stored them in the underground fallout shelter i made, plus i have tons of survival gear hidden in secret caches in different secure area's just in case i need emergency back ups for whatever situation should befall me, i put two underground concrete water tanks in with my fallout shelter, one is a water storage tank and the other is for gray water, i based my shelter on Utah shelter systems(tm) but i have done a few things differnt so as not to incur there wrath, people that know me say i'm going overboard this survival phase they call it, but i would rather be overprepared than underprepared.

Bush wants to send 20,000 more troops to Iraq. One Brigade now and one Brigade per month.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said newly empowered Democrats will not give Bush a blank check to wage war in Iraq, hinting they could deny funding if he seeks additional troops.
"The American people and the Congress support those troops. We will not abandon them. But if the president wants to add to this mission, he is going to have to justify it and this is new for him because up until now the Republican Congress has given him a blank check with no oversight, no standards, no conditions," said Pelosi, D-Calif.
Some military officials, familiar with the discussions, say Bush at first could send 8,000 to 10,000 new troops to Baghdad, and possibly Anbar Province, and leave himself the option of adding more later if security does not improve.
"Based on the advice of current and former military leaders, we believe this tactic would be a serious mistake," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev..

How are you celebrating "Australia Day"?

Having a tinny or two and watching the Cricket?
Putting your feet up and chillin' with the Mrs?
Maybe head down to Darling Harbour for the fireworks later?

Doing something uniquely "Australian"?
Perhaps something a bit "partriotic"?

My family and I will be heading to Canberra. We cannot afford such a trip (from Bundaberg, Qld), but the issues at stake are too important to ignore any longer....
It appears Mr Howard needs a personal visit.

With the morality and political correctness war going on, I wonder how much longer it will be before Christmas becomes socially insulting? I mean is it really all about Jesus or Religion or is it a main artery for capital gain?

The house passed "Pay-go" in it's first day. The vote was 280-152.
48 Repubs. voted for it. In the past 5 years spending by Republicans has ran up a $9 trillion debt. I think it's dishonest for Republicans to pass a spending increase and not tell Americans what they will cut to pay for it. That was the old Congress. Now if Bush wants $100 billion for Iraq he must now say what he is willing to cut to get that increase. That is good for those of us that are really the Conservatives. If Democrats want to increase spending on Health Care or Student loans they must tell Americans what they will cut to get the new spending.

prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald’s Chicago grand jury has voted perjury and obstruction of justice indictments to the following members of the Bush Administration: President George W. Bush, Vice-President Richard Cheney, Bush Chief of Staff Andrew Card, Cheney Chief of Staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez, former Attorney General John Ashcroft, imprisoned New York Times reporter Judith Miller and former Senior Cheney advisor Mary Matalin.

There were no indications given as to whether the President and his top staff members would appear publicly before cameras at the grand jury proceedings, given the gravity of the charges.

Besides the Valerie Plame CIA leak case, the Fitzgerald probe is reportedly far-reaching and expanding much deeper into past White House criminal acts involving Bush-Clinton drug money laundering in Mena, Arkansas to White House involvement in 9.11; but also for sending America’s young people to their deaths or to be maimed in Iraq and Afghanistan under false pretenses.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair was indicted for obstruction of justice and is reportedly consulting with members of Parliament and legal aides regarding how to avoid appearing in the U.S.A. for interrogation before Fitzgerald in Chicago.

The revelations emanated from sources close to the grand jury who spoke with federal whistleblower Thomas Heneghan in California who said White House Senior Advisor to the President Karl Rove was also indicted for perjury and was reportedly involved with Mary Matalin in a major Bush administration document shredding operation to cover-up evidence.

Now after over 3 years and over 3000 dead and 22,000 wounded in Iraq Bush said yesterday "I will want to make sure the mission is clear and specific and can be accomplished", then he said "I've still got consultations to go through." He was speaking of sending more troops into Iraq.
My Words follow. On the campaign trail before Novembers elections he taunted Democrats with "where is your plan?" Now he openly admits he has no plan, he's working on it. It's hard work. He had no plan going into Iraq. He had no exit plan which Colin Powel told Bush from the start was a necessary before the invasion and occupation of Iraq.
Notice also that General John P. Abizaid and General George Casey, the chief general in Iraq have decided to "cut and run in Iraq", they will be leaving there own mistakes and bad judgments for someone else to clean up. I wonder if they were fired by Bush or did they just decide to bail out?
Nice how the Generals get to throw in the towel and go home.

A local supermarket, owned by an out-of-state parent company, has persisted with a deceptive advertising offer and has stated no plans to cease it. The damage to the each consumer who participates is small but with a million+ customers it's a large deception.

How can I, simply as a conscientious consumer without the money to hire counsel, take legal action against the chain to right a wrong?

Can I file a small claim for the maximum value and simply argue that I could not afford to file for a larger value?

Half of all Americans or 50 percent have incomes under $30,000.
That would be adjusted gross income.
