These seem like the two hottest issues at the moment, and could be the two most important of his presidency.

I generally support Bush on the first (Iraq, anti-terrorism, etc.), but not the second. Frankly, I think they are contradictory in terms of national security. Why lock and bar the windows if the front door is wide open?

But what I'm interested in is any possible explanations of the philosophy or worldview underlying both actions. It would be interesting to hear from someone who agrees with him on both, if such a person exists.

Or, what do you think explains both positions. (I can't wait to see the answers to this one!)

If Bush himself has explained it, I missed it. So I have to ask. Thanks!

The next President is going to have the same powers Bush has given himself, will you still feel ok with this when it is someone who is opposite your political beliefs?

This article talks about the FDA's permanent ban on male homosexuals, IV drug users, and those who pay for sex to ever donate blood.
The reasons for this are obvious. However there are advocacy groups calling this discrimination. How could hopefully stopping a possible HIV victim from spreading a deadly disease be discrimination? I've personally known somebody that tested positive for HIV after receiving a blood transfusion. No she wasn't a druggie, she was a 72 year old grandmother for those that want say something stupid.
I could care less what grown people do in their own bedrooms, but calling this discrimination is beyond stupid. We're talking about AID's, not the common cold.

Could someone please show me the place in the Constitution where it says that, as an American, I have to pretend to agree with everything my government does and I am never, ever allowed to speak out in criticism of that government?

The minute someone points this out to me, I promise, I will stop criticizing Bush.

I hope there is a lawyer or police officer on here... A friend of mine at work and her husband (both from Bosnia) own a moving company, 2 trucks and 4 guys. One of the guys was having people make the checks out in his name, $4,500.00 worth of checks. The police retrieved the checks but would not arrest the guy, because he hadn't cashed them. HE STILL STOLD THE CHECKS, HAD THEM MADE OUT IN HIS NAME! Why wouldn't they, or couldn't they arrest him?

Is this government slowly, beginning to wake up to reality?

Everyone seems to have an opinion about the way the country should be run. At the same rate, everyone is quick to point to their political figures and say they are the ones to blame for all the turmoil. There are thousands of issues to deal with on a daily basis, but the most popular seem to be War, Immigration, and Social Security Reform. Although more than the majority are not satisfied with his decisions, President Bush has done what he has seen fit best for the country.

I have read through political rants about Democrats this, Republicans that and how the town stinks of Liberals. I am just curious, if placed in the hot seat with only seconds to make a decision, what would you do if you were the leader of the United States of America? Would your decisions be based on popularity or political influence?

You are President. It's now past 9/11. Saddam, a man who has already invaded two of his neighbors previously, has kicked out weapons inspectors. The UN issues another resolution and Saddam refuses to go along. You have some intelligence that indicates that Saddam might have WMD's but you aren't sure. (The last sentence is hypothetical. We don't know what Bush knew, but let's try to keep it as neutral as possible.)

My question is, "What would you do as President?", and try to keep your discussions as objective as possible.
