I'd be interested in hearing from any current or retired military personnel, specifically British but all are welcome to answer. I have applied to join the Grenadier Guards as an Officer after I graduate (summer 07)- but some of my friends already in the Army (they are all NCOs in the Royal Signals) have told me that the Guards are just pompous and are in existence purely for the ceremony.

Also they have told me that, whilst having a state school education is no hinderance in becoming an Army Officer, I'd be ripped apart in the Guards for not being of the right 'breed'.

Is there any truth to this or are my friends pulling my leg?

Now jr. wants over 8,000 add'l troops to send off to war.
That's in ADDITION to the 'surge'.
Let's face it people, the guy is nuts.
Watch for even more Repulicans turning against this madman.

History should teach us that both wars are unwinnable. Everytime we kill innocent civilians we create more insurgents.

Is it REAL of Media lies?

For instance the Media right now is claiming that Hugo Chavez is holding "anti-American" rallies. This is totally untrue.

Whenever the media talks about Chavez being anti-American, no one in Venezuela perceives it that way. They perceive him as being anti-Bush. Period.

They like the American people, and Chavez gave cheap home heating oil in response to Hurricaine Katrina when every other Arab and US oil company refused (and that was at the request of Congress!!!).

So is there real anti-Americanism or is is a lie generated to justify wars with peaceful people over (you guessed it) OIL...

think about it.

I have made several replies to some questions and I had mentioned you-tube. That there was allot of INFORMATION on there.

Then out of the blue I get a bunch of fire back from some people who either don't know or they ARE REPUBLICANS and trying to throw DOUBT in your mind like they do 24/7/365.

I remember news cast form CNN NEWS.......the TLC channel and other tv news organizations ON YOU-TUBE.. Well those some people shouted back at me saying "who is you-tube now and what athority they are or have. Making some people wonder.......no...no....no.....one more time....you-tube is JUST A WEB SITE! These links or address is ONLY for people who would like to know more than YOU! Oh PBS.org/frontline is also in there.
I guess that fabricated stuff also. Shows Bush in CLASSROOM as we're being attacked.

Julie Myers is the Assistant Secretary of Enforcement for DHS. The only reasons she got the job is that her husband was DHS Secretary Chertoff's assistant, her uncle was the airforce chief of staff, and she was the one who was told to find someone to fill the position so she submitted only her own name.

The President nominated her for the job (a legal requirement), but the Senate rejected her for not being qualified. So during recess, the President did a recess nomination.

When the Senate returned, the President renominated her. The Senate again rejected her as being unqualified. The President keeps nominating her.

The people she "supervises" know she is not the person for the job and they almost all want her out of the office.

Many feel that she is there to destroy the agency.

Should she be chased out of office?

my husband comes from Egypt and i don't know where or how i can find a healthplan that will cover him. he doesn't yet have his green card. he does have a work permit and is a legal resident to the US. his green card is pending. is there any family medical that will cover both him and i. i am Egyptian but i was born here so already i am American.

Well, its left Africa underdeveloped resulting in more loss of life, because the global warming theorists only want them to use solar and wind power. Why can't they use their coal and oil? The rich oppressing the poor again, not only in Africa, but in industrialized countries. For instance, industrialization allows products only the rich could afford, available to everyone, but global warming attacks industry, so when industry is gone, so is the middle class. So, why are people allowing the rich to oppress the poor again?

I have gotten 2 e-mails stating In God We Trust was left off the new $1.00 coin. The U.S. Mint says it is on the rim along with E-Pliribus Unum and the mint. I cannot remember where I heard about the mis-struck coins being released and wonder if anyone has this information.
