Depends, technically it is an offence to leave a vehicle anywhere on the road. Technically you could leave your car outside your house and get a parking ticket, lines or no lines. It's just un-enforced.
Saying that, if you leave your car in a lay-by for a week it will probably be removed due to the fire hazard it represents.
If you leave it in a layby on a trunk road then it will probably be removed very soon, the laybys on trunk roads are meant to be used for short rest periods or in emergencies.
Either way, it isn't advisable. Also bear in mind that youths are very quick to notice when something has been in one place for longer than 20 minutes and will probably vandalise/steal it.

Unless there is a white timeplate detailing a limited waiting restriction it is quite legal. However, one of these anti-crime programmes got a car and parked it in a lay by with a hidden camera and left it for four days and in those four days the car had its seats, stereo, wheels, windscreen wipers and various other parts stolen. Up to you if you want to take this risk!!!

I think the council and or police will have it moved, as these lay-bys are meant for people to have a break from driving
