We lambast the folks in the southeast section of our country for flying the Confederate battle flag. They're rednecks, they're klan members, they're dumb hicks... etc. They're showing pride in their region's past. They're showing reverence for their ancestors. 'But their ancestors owned slaves!!!' Well, the United States had legal slavery for 85-90 years (depending on what year you consider the US founded and when slavery ended) and the Confederate flag flew over slavery for only 4 years. Shouldn't the US flag be considered more slave oriented...
But I digress...
My point, and my question, are isn't it a double standard to make light of the Southerners displaying their heritage by waving the Confederate flag, when we constantly see Mexicans waving their flag proclaiming their heritage?
Yeah, the ancestors of Southerners owned slaves, true. The ancestors of the Mexicans performed human sacrifices and ripped peoples hearts out. What's worse?
