how long is a mare pregnant for before you see a change in apperance? and is there any way to check if a mare is pregnant without involving a vet?

I work for a riding school, and am almost certain a horse we bought is pregnant because of the shape of her belly, but the club won't pay for a vet to check her as the manager is convinced it is just a straw belly

any advice or ideas welcome.

my dad sent this video of a screaming rabbit to me and at first i thought it was cute and funny but then i started wondering....do you think the rabbit is in pain because his sense of hearing is so keen that the owners singing is too loud for him or do you think hes "singing" with the owner like a dog will? check the link

i was sitting here, hamster making wierd noises again, like a guinea pig, and the rats playing in thier cage, and i thought, can i give them yoplat yogurt, the one with the crushed fruit in it to them without any bad things like sickness happening to them, they its the kind you take to school or work, the aluminum lid, and the fruit mized in, in really small crunchy bits, and fat free. also, would it hurt to give it to my hamsters? i ask because i dont want to be stupid and get my little friends all sick.

so, is it safe to give that kind of yogurt to hamsters and rats, fancy rats or dwarf hamsters?

He does it after going through his gaits in the round pen, usually when he has lots of energy. He looks at the other horses which are in their pens and snorts in their direction. Is he saying something like look at me, I'm bigger and faster than you? or I'm mad because I'm working and you're not? Or something else? He is occasionally cranky with other horses. He NEVER does it with a rider on! Yikes! I'm not necessarily worried about it, just curious about the behavior, Thanks!

Is it domestic? What are the things that it can does? Are there people keeping that? As far as I know, there are diseases that can be transferred to humans which come from snails. Isn't it uncanny to keep animals like that? Eew.

I just bought a 12-year-old Morgan gelding. Sweet, but of course somewhat nervous since we just moved him to a new home. His previous owner liked to run him all the time - he won't stand for mounting, is impatient in the trailer, and wants to zoom off the minute you hit the saddle. I need to reprogram him - 1) to get some patience and stand still in the trailer, while tied, and for mounting, and 2) to walk off and change gaits when I ask only. Where do I start? Thanks!

I just decided last night to start donating a small amount to them each month. I signed up online. Now I'm starting to realize their website is crappy. Does anyone else donate? Do you hate their website? Do you get anything cool for becoming a monthly donor? Just wondering.

I love animals and want to help out as much as I can.

When I went to the vet with my 2 yr old dog she remarked on the beautiful condition of her coat, how well she looked and commented on her good nature.

The vet asked what I feed her on and I was embarressed to say anything but she loves, apples, bannanas, strawberries, cherries, mangos, oranges
greek yogurt, pasta, rice, sardines, salmon, all meats, salami, pitta bread , cat food-but doesn't like tinned dog food!

When we have our meals she looks for hers too.

At night when she feels it's time to go to bed she jumps on my bed and moves the quilt so she is covered and lays her head on my pillow-it's true! During the night if she gets cold she will whine until I let her get under my quilt and then she lays beneath it, pushes up against my legs with her head popping out of the end of the quilt.

I know she is a lovely dog and she doesn't have a weight problem however, is she normal or confused? Does anyone else have a dog that has these human traits and food preferences?

A Cruel Hunt That Must Be Stopped
Canada's annual seal hunt is the largest slaughter of marine mammals on the planet. This year the Canadian government allowed fishermen to club and shoot more than 330,000 baby seals in the North Atlantic, just to earn a few extra bucks by selling seal skins. Last year, 98.5% of the seals killed were two months of age or younger—and veterinary reports indicate that many seals have been skinned while still conscious and able to feel pain.
Is the Seal Hunt Cruel?
Yes. In 2001, a report by an independent team of veterinarians who studied the hunt concluded that governmental regulations regarding humane killing were neither being respected nor enforced, and that the seal hunt failed to comply with Canada's basic animal welfare standards. Shockingly, the veterinarians found that in 42% of the cases they studied, the seals had likely been skinned alive while conscious.
