Yup. My dog and cat live together fine. My cat will even attack the dog when he's feeling especially frisky, which is rare. My dog on the other hand will run by my cat and do a "drive by" with an open mouth on the back of my cat's neck just enough to drool on him and not miss a beat while running away. Oh man, that pisses my cat off, but it's so funny! lol My cat looks around like, "Where the heck did that come from?!" And all he sees is my dog's a s s running away!

Don't worry, my dog doesn't grab my cat, she just drools on my cat's neck.

On the flip side, if my dog is on the couch and we're all chilling watching TV, my cat will curl up with my dog and start rubbing his face and neck against my dog who gives such a confused look. It's soooo darn cute.

Sorry for the extra details you didn't ask for.

Of coarse. But if you have a big aggressive dog and cat, it's better that they grow up together from a young age. Some breeds naturally 'hate' cats, and can potentially kill a family cat. Siberian Huskies are horrible with them. Some have been know to view kitties as a prey animal, and kill them. Herding dogs also make terrible roommates with cats. They will chase, chase, chase, CHASE them! It is almost impossible to train this out of them. It's what they were bred for. Small dogs are generally good with cats. Mabey even because the cat is just as large as the dog, and does not fear it.

All in all, some dogs are good with cats. It totally depends on the Breed's background. Still, cat's are pretty good with staying out of a dog's way.

Don't take the chance unless you KNOW. You won't want your cute little fluffy kitten to be shred to ribbons by a Mastiff that you /thought/ would be gentle.

Yes they can. It would be better if they were both young and grew up together than if they were both old and one was in the house longer that the other. I had my dog 2 years before i had my cat and at 1st they fought alot but as time went on they tolerated each other and they would lay around together. My dog is a hound so she is big and my cat is a persian male. What ever you do do not declaw the cat that is their main defence against animals and they need it just in case the dog is begger and want to pick a fight

My Boxer is 7 years old .. the cat is 8 months old . and they have been best of friends and play together ever since I brought the cat in the door. Of course they can live together. However, .. having an older cat in the house and bringing in a new kitten ... ? Now that is another story .. and that would be ill advised. Good luck ! :)

absolutely! they usually get along better if they have lived to gether since they were a puppy and a kitten, but they can be trained to get along and live together. you just have to take the right precautions. try to train the dog to not try to attack or chase the cat and when the cat realizes that the dog has no offence it usually calms down, and is more mellow towards the dog.hope this helps, good luck!

it is stressful to declare how the cat will react to the canines yet you should get a feeling of ways the canines might react to the cat. carry some thing with you to the rescue place that has the cats scent throughout it. enable the canines scent it. If it reacts in an aggressive or overly excited way, it would act that way with the cat. Do get one that has been in a house with different pets. After awhile the two gets used to the assumption of sharing an identical living house. That cat might start up off scared yet whilst the canines leaves it on my own, it will loosen up i'm specific. sturdy luck. The canines you rescue would be an exceedingly fortunate canines.

Yes, dogs and cats can co-exist very happily together. It helps if they grow up together too.
