We have a 2 month old 75 gallon auarium, and the amonia and the nitrites are fine... but the nitrates are way too high! How do we get it back down??? We are on well water at our house, and not sure if the nitrates are coming from the well-water? or if they're from the tank itsef. And we are not overfeeding the fish! we feed them 1 time a day, and they consume it all in about a minute. hardly any of the food falls to the bottom. We have a clown knife, and he gets that stuff.

Please help???

Any suggestions would be great, too.

I currently have a 55 gallon tank. 70 lbs of live sand 55 lbs of live rock tank. Tank has been up and running for about 2 months with no fish. I have the Bak-Pak2 Skimmer Reef Ready, Fluval 305, 48" Metal Halide and Actinic lights 10k all together 760w. I just want to start out with a decent good looking reef tank. Any suggestions on what to start out with and what fish are compatible to be in a reef tank. I am no expert on fishes but I have owned some freshwater tanks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I couldn't afford to get her declawed when I first got her, and now I'm afraid to get new furniture because she scratches it.

My dog is about 30 lbs. She is weezing and scratching all over. I've heard that benadryl will help her, but I don't know how much to give her.

2 weeks ago I bought a new couch and loveseat when my fiance and I bought a new house. They both sit up off the floor on legs just enough that the cats can get under them. Of course there is the black lining on the bottom that covers what would be the opening there. My cats (well maybe only one of them, I cannot catch them in the act) have decided that it would be neat if they could make it a new hiding place. They have torn a hole in the lining just big enough to be able to climb inside and lay in it and start to tear up and play in all of the stuffing and the springs. They also started to claw the outside arms. These cats have not really done anything like this before. They have scratching pads and posts and toys that have usually kept them occupied. They still use all that stuff too, just added the furniture. Any suggestions??? I have heard feliway is good to keep cats from clawing things, but this is supposedly when it is because of stress, it looks like mine are just having fun :(

Is it ok to leave my tank with the light off overnight?

It is a small 2.5gallon tank. The java moss are getting too much light, they are turning brown and some parts have become transparent. Will my fish be ok if i leave the light off? i was thinking about doing this a few nights a week...

This past weekend was very tough as we had to make a decision and lost our dear Sparky.
Sharing his memory/his pics with others helps heal the wounds on our hearts....

Through the eyes of Sparky

A cold, dark night in Minnesota
I came to your door hoping you’d hear
And you comforted me, fed me
Took me into your home

Welcoming me, treating me like family
You took me into your hearts
My love for you continued to grow
As you fondly referred to me as your son

I liked to run through the house
Jump on the bed and start to play
Gaze out the window from my perch
Play with my toys strewn around the room

Purring like a motor as you brushed me
Rolling over for a belly scratch
Laying by your side as you slept
I kept you in my own heart

The sad, sad day when you had to say goodbye
You held me close and I knew
Looking into your eyes, I said goodbye
And thank you for the best 5 years of my life
~~
we love you

I have a 5 year old female cat with a huge attitude. She is skittish around other people, but loves me. Lately, I have been considering on getting another cat for companionship for her. What kind of cat, older or kitten and male or female. Or do you think I should just keep it as is.
Thanks

I have a 10 year old female cat. We got her a companion when she was aged 2 - he was a kitten but he sadly died 3 years ago. About 3 months later we got a rescue cat aged 2. He died about a month ago from FIP. The thing is, she never really liked either of them! She got on better with Thomas (the first cat) in that they often slept together and would eat from the same bowl but with Bob (2nd cat) she ignored him completely, or would just jump on him. Sometimes they chased each other. My question is, should chance it with another companion? Since Bob died she has become more demanding but also she is playing a whole lot more so is that because she is lonely or is she actually happier? It is really hard to tell. My initial opinion is that she is happier but then she has had the company of another cat from an early age. I really dont know what to do for the best and would appreciate any opinions. Thanks

My chihuahua had epilepsy had I had to leave her behind with my mother when I moved to the UK, I didn't want to but I knew she was safe and well taken care of. Last month I returned to the US for my wedding and the day after I arrived my dog suddenly died. I was so crushed and all week I had to stuff everything down and pretend I was happy and smile for the camera. No one understood how hurt I was and kept getting angry at me for not wanting to go out and have fun.
Now that I've come back to the UK I've been extremely depressed over my dog. I missed her a lot before and now I'm beyond lonely. I can't even look at other people chihuahuas because I get so depressed. Every time I see my mother inlaws dog I think why couldn't he just have died, no one but her likes him anyways... and then I feel even worse for thinking that.
I was just wondering how other people dealt with their pets dieing and any advise that'll help.
Thank you.

My cat doesn't always use her litter box. I clean it 2 days, change the litter completely often, and she still sometimes won't use it! She has always done this. At first I knew it was because she hadn't been spayed. Since then, she still does it. She pees in my plants, in the bath tub, on our blankets, on the bath mats, sometimes on our clothes. I am going crazy!

She doesn't have any infection or anything. She does use the litter box to poo, and sometimes pee. I have gone through many different kinds of litter, and litter boxes. This seems to be the kind she likes best.

Sometimes I think she does it because she is mad at me, maybe her food or water runs out or something. Seriously, I am so through with my house always smelling like urine! Please help.

My 10 month old doberman pinscher has a little dry, balding area, about the size of a quarter under her eye. I know this is common for dobermans, but is there a way to get rid of it? I will take her to the vet, but first I'd like to try a home remedy if anyone has one?

Thanks!!

I need to find a new home for my cat and dog. I don't want to give them to just anybody, I want them to go to good homes with people who will take care of them. Are there any good websites that I can put them on?
