My 10 month old doberman pinscher has a little dry, balding area, about the size of a quarter under her eye. I know this is common for dobermans, but is there a way to get rid of it? I will take her to the vet, but first I'd like to try a home remedy if anyone has one?

Thanks!!

Given that your Dobe is still considered a puppy, I'd recommend getting your pup to a vet to be looked at and have a skin scraping done.

Of my 5 Dobes, 2 have had a condition called Demodectic Mange as pups. It is caused by a tiny microscopic mite. Don't panic -- All dogs raised normally by their mothers possess this mite as they are transferred from mother to pup via cuddling during the first few days of life. For some reason, conditions change in certain dogs to allow demodex mites to "gain the upper hand;" the mites proliferate and can cause the little dry balding area you describe.

Even though your pup is not extremely young, he's still a pup and his immune system is still developing. Even an adult dog has been known to develop localized Demodectic Mange when they've been ill or their immune systems are compromised.

There are specialized ointments and dips that are very successful in treating this condition if caught early. But you have to have your pup see a vet first!

I wouldn't want to put too much close to the eye. I suggest checking with the vet first on why and then maybe someone here has a home remedy for the cause.

My lab use to have the comparable situation, the only nutrition that shall we provide him replaced into Nutro Lamb & Rice. changing the nutrition is great, yet do no longer forget approximately approximately his treats. We made that mistake, then figured it out and commencing getting the particular biscuits too. Made a extensive distinction. Our lab replaced into additionally allergic to fleas, pass determine, we saved him on flea drops all year around and that helped too. finally, shall we in common terms use oatmeal based shampoos on him. His epidermis wasn't dry the two, it replaced into the residues left on him by utilising the different shampoos that led to the itching. while he might have undesirable episodes we would provide him Lipiderm as a supplement. you will get it at Petsmart.

I've had a similar problem with some of our boxers we find that wiping the area with a used teabag has cleared it up very quickly. if it's causeing the dog discomfort take it to your local vet immediatly.
