My cat doesn't always use her litter box. I clean it 2 days, change the litter completely often, and she still sometimes won't use it! She has always done this. At first I knew it was because she hadn't been spayed. Since then, she still does it. She pees in my plants, in the bath tub, on our blankets, on the bath mats, sometimes on our clothes. I am going crazy!

She doesn't have any infection or anything. She does use the litter box to poo, and sometimes pee. I have gone through many different kinds of litter, and litter boxes. This seems to be the kind she likes best.

Sometimes I think she does it because she is mad at me, maybe her food or water runs out or something. Seriously, I am so through with my house always smelling like urine! Please help.

She is spayed. Her box is in the most private place we have for her, the corner on the laundry room.

Ugh, you do have a problem.

Have you tried cleaning the litter box every day, except when you change it?

For a while, I had trouble with a cat who had just gotten over a urinary tract infection behaving similarly. What I ended up doing was making the inappropriate places unavailable.

Leave a couple of inches of water in the bottom of your tub. Hang your bath mats when you're done using them. Cover your blankets with a plastic tarp: That's extreme, I know. But that's what I had to do to keep my cat of that time from peeing on the bed. Don't leave clothes laying around: Put them away immediately when you get them out of the dryer, and put them in a hamper when they get dirty.

For your plants, that will be harder. You'll have to find some way to put them in a place where she can't get at them. If that won't work, make it so she can't dig in the dirty by perhaps covering it with mesh, or marbles.

Good luck!

So have you spayed her? My 6 month old female kitten, Polly, isn't spayed as of yet and doesn't use the litter box to pee very often. Also, where is the tray positioned? Cats like their tray to be placed in a private area with little or no traffic around. My 1 year old cat didn't use her litter box for a while but once I moved the tray from the laundry to the back room, she started to use it again. Also, have you got a normal tray or a tray with a "roof" on it? She might like the hooded one so it's darker and more private for her. I bought one for my 3 cats but the two younger ones were too scared to do anything in there and instead, teamed up to kick all the litter out of it while we were out!

Cats are private animals and many dislike using their litter tray. Are you in a position to have a cat flap so she can go outdoors? If not, perhaps the litter tray could be put in a different position which your cat might think more private? I always find it useful to imagine your cat thinking like a human being!

Go buy a couple more litter boxes and put them in all the different rooms that she goes and pees in. That may help. Good Luck!!
