I need to find a new home for my cat and dog. I don't want to give them to just anybody, I want them to go to good homes with people who will take care of them. Are there any good websites that I can put them on?

Look I don't want to get rid of them, it is breaking my families hearts. But we are moving to a big city, due to my husbands job. But I also have two kids to worry about, so living in my car isn't an option. ( just for your knowledge, ulcrm ) And if I could find a place where I could keep them, and they will be happy, I would gladly do so.

People really need to stop judging your hard decision on giving your pets up. Ever think of that maybe the only place her family can afford doesn't allow pets? Y'all really need to stop being so friggen self righteous. She's trying to find a good home for them. I've seen people just leave animals at the side of the road to die.

So your moving and you can't take your dog and cat? That really rots my gut. That is the number one sorry reason why people give up their pets. Your animals are your responsibility for the rest of their lives. I would rather live in my car than give up my animals. I wish your animals luck, they'll need it.

"living in my car" was sarcasim. There has to be places in the city that allows animals. Animals are always put on the back burner like they don't matter, like they don't have feelings too. If the place you were moving to said they wouldn't accept kids, what would you do?

Well at least your trying to find them a good home.

There is not a single city that does not allow pets. Depending on your dog's breed, there may be laws restricting dogs...but there's no reason not to look into the possibility of keeping both pets anyway. You made a commitment to your pets when you brought them home and it is your responsibility to at least try to find pet friendly housing before getting rid of them. Growing up in a military family, we moved frequently and usually a great distance. There has only been one case where we did not bring one of our pets with us, and that was because the poor cat was half feral to begin with and would urinate as soon as we put him in the carrier and we were moving from Illinois to California.

Petfinder.com has a list of articles and links on pet friendly housing:

HSUS articles and links on finding pet friendly rentals:

You can also contact a real estate agent or animal shelter/pet rescue group in your new city and ask them for information on pet-friendly housing.

If you come to the conclusion that it is just too inconvenient for you to find pet-friendly housing in your new city then these websites also offer articles and tips on finding homes for animals too.

Where is 'the big city' that does not allow dogs and cats?

Your dog and cat already have a good home (at least they think they do). Why aren't you asking for advice on how to let your dog and cat keep the home they have?

Take them to a no-kill shelter. Do it after hours and leave them in the outside crates if cost is an issue for you. Some shelters try to charge for dropping off animals and then again when they sell them (double dipping) There are numerous advantages in doing this. You know they will receive up to date medical care. And you know that they will be adopted out to screened individuals who have passed the shelter's criteria. It is better than trying to deal with this yourself. And let's face it, you can't go around inspecting everyone's finances, homes, and criminal histories like a shelter can.

If they are purebred animals, you can take them to their breed rescue in your state. They only allow people to adopt their animals if they have completed an application to adopt and if their house has been inspected. If they aren't purebred, http://www.craigslist.com will help. If you got your dog from a reputable breeder, call them and tell them what's happening. If they gave you a contract at the time of purchase, the contract probably would have said that if you can't keep the dog any longer, you need to give the dog back.

craigslist.com is a great website for you. You post an ad in your local area of the site. They allow pet postings in the pet section, as long as it's not for profit, so it would be perfect for you.

Good luck!

You can post a picture at craigslist.com and check your local freescycle yahoo group. A lot of animals find new homes on craigslist. You can post everyday.
