As in kill it or sedate it? I'm going to hope you're talking about sedation...in which case you can get tranquilizers from your vet. We have to give them to our dog on 4th of July or he panics (because of the fireworks).

Okay, everyone shouldn't assume this person is abusing their pet. Unless you know exactly what circumstances they are dealing with, chill out! I have a Chihuahua that is so old she farts dust. God love her but she get very nervous around strange people and places. She has recently become incontinent and exhibits strange behavior. I know her time is drawing near. When it's time, I'm not taking her to the vet to be scared and shaking and whining. That's not the last memory I want to carry with me. I will give her the necessary meds to PAINLESSLY, and HUMANELY let her go to sleep peacefully in the comfort of her home and in my arms. If you feel that this is abuse then you're an idiot. Letting an animal suffer because you think it's inhumane to do something mercifully for them is a form of abuse. I'm not saying feed the dog your prescription of whatever. Do some research. Me personally, My pet is my responsibility. I will not have her euthanized by a stranger. Vet or not.

"Put to sleep" as in euthanize it? Take it to a vet or humane society. A dog is given an overdose of barbituates, sometimes the same ones used in smaller doses as anesthetics, which cause the central nervous system to shut down and the heart stops beating. These medicines are controlled drugs and ONLY available through liscensed veterinarians. It is illegal for anyone other than a vet to administer them.

By the term "put a dog to sleep," I am assuming you're talking about euthanasia.
Here in the US, The medicines used to euthanize a dog are considered "controlled substances" and are available through licensed vets only. They are administered as humanely as possible - usually through intravenous injection.
So, unless you're a licensed vet or trained vet tech working under the supervision of a licensed vet - I wouldn't recommend you euthanizing your dog yourself.

If you mean sedate the dog...then the vet may be able to give you something to give to you're dog to lightly sedate it. Only if it is for health reasons generally, or if the dog is afraid of something like traveling in a car if you are moving house, fireworks etc.
But if you are talking about euthanasia then get you're vet to do it! I hope you're dog is old or terminally ill or something because putting it to sleep for no reason is animal cruelty. If you can't take care of the dog anymore then give him to an animal shelter or to someone who wants a dog.
If you're dog is ill and needs to be put to sleep but you don't have the money, then go to the local humane society.

i hope it not as in killing it if so you have to go to a vet for that ..80( but if your asking about puppys sleeping the best thing to do is buy a kennel that is big enof for your dog to sit lie down and turn around in no bigger then that put a blankit in it and if you have a wach that ticks hide it under the blankit dogs like the constint sound if its a puppy sometimes water bottels help for meds there is a over the counter called pet callm you can buy it at pet co or pets mart and its all natural with lavender and other herbs warning it can be a little sticky to use but dogs like it and it calms them down with out harming them you can also try taking the dog for a walk befor bed ware he/she out a bit

What!?!?!? Take your dog to a vet!!!!
Why would you want to put your own dog to sleep?
And no there is no medicine available for you to do it yourself. Geez... pay the vet $50 and have them do it humanely for you. Isn't your dog worth that?
There is a term for people who put their own pets down. Animal abusers.

Let a vet do it. Why would you want to do it. Put out the money and allow a professional to handle this. I sure hope the animal is old and dying if not give the dog away. If you concoct up something the animal may suffer needlessly. It fails to amaze me people get pets and dont want to take it to vets and put their hands in their pockets. Barbaric!

Good God, as usual, overreaction from Yanks. I have just phoned my vet to get some pills to sedate my dog, so that he can be clipped. He hates being messed with. Kalmaid is one solution.

Like many have said...I don't know if you mean sedated or euthanized. Either way you need to go to a Veterinarian. Any other type of euthanasia that is not performed by a Veterinarian is cruel and against the law!!! If money is an issue, take them to your local Humane Society.
