My Sisters dog got bit by a snake a couple of weeks ago. She weighs 85lbs. The vet said to give her 80mg of Benadryl twice four to six hours apart. That is a huge, huge dose, but the only side effect was sleepiness. So give your dog a lot less than 30mg (her weight in pounds) and she should be fine with it. I would start with a small dose like 10mg or less. Or get the liquid and just use the amount listed for a 2yo child. They weigh about 30lbs.

My dog had allergies and my vet told me to use benadryl. He said to go by the body weight of the dog. My dog was big, she was 75 pounds and used the adult strength, every day. Your sized dog would be on the children's strength. Check the package for the weight (even though for a human) can be equivalent to dog, so whatever a 30 lb kid would get a 30 lb dog can get.

Please take your dog to the vet first. This sounds like an allergy, could be food, fleas, even the shampoos or sprays that you may use on her. By finding out first what is causing the issue and then treating it is the best thing instead of medicating your dog without knowing what is causing the problem. Benadryl used incorrectly or over an extended period of time can affect the kidneys.

You should call your vet. Your dog may have some history where it would not be a good idea to give it benadryl. Before giving your pet any drug, consult with your vet. Do not take advise from the internet or dog breeders, go to where they went 8 yrs of schooling. The advise is free at your vet....and reliable.

It sounds like skin allergies. Talk to your vet about benadryl - the dosage will vary based on weight.
Some preventative measures you can take (My golden has HORRID skin allergies). Switch the food to a lamb and rice formula, and buy a shampoo (at the normal grocery store) called Tegrin. Its a dandruff shampoo. Not head and shoulders! Tegrin is medicated and helps to sooth the skin.
My golden was so bad she'd chew her feet raw and break out in hotspots. Since using tegrin and switching her food I haven't had a break out or excessive scratching for about 3 years. (She's 7 now)
Good Luck

Call your vet and ask him....he will know. Just like people dogs are given medications according to weight. The ratio for dogs and people is not the same.

My 15 lb. beagle takes half of a tablet three times a day. Talk to your vet. She will give you the proper pill size and dose for your baby.

Have her seen by a vet to have the cause checked before you start experimenting with drugs on her.
