I have two Mickey Mouse platie fish. (Along with a few other types of fish) My female is pregnant although I am not sure how far along. I noticed she was pregnant 2-3 weeks ago. (I was told its about 30 days till birth from start) So I imagine she is due pretty soon as, I am sure I didn’t notice immediately. Yesterday I set up a new tank for her to give birth in. I put her in alone and she seemed very stressed out. So I put in the male with her so she wouldn’t be alone. I was told that you should always have a pair together. (I plan to take the male out when I notice new birth or impending. I will take her out once she seems done) When I set up the tank I did put in start right and the temperatures where nearly identical in both tanks. Looking back I think that I should have floated them in a bag anyways because looking at the male he seems blotchy in color. Maybe now white spots? I don’t know as I don’t really know if his skin seems more blotchy or spotty. Anyways reading on the net it seems that many say they need a bit of salt in the water normally. Also I’ve seen it say that live bearing breeding tanks/nurseries should have salt in the water as well. And since he may now have a disease many articles say salt will kill the disease. I don’t want him or the mother/babies to have this.
I called my local pet store they say no salt. They said start right is all that’s needed. Apparently start right has a bit of salt. This is my question, dose anyone knows for sure? I am new to this. I really like the idea of watching livebearers have fry. I think it will be fun to watch them multiply. Oh, also I was wondering. My two tanks don’t have a heater. They sit at about 72. I was told that they should be warmer. I’ve had my fish about 3 months they always seemed fine. Should I put a heater in the new tank? If so why and what temp? Oh and also if I should use salt can I use sea salt or table salt instead of aquarium salt? I have these already.

I took my 5-year old miniature schnauzer into the vet 2 weeks ago in order to get his teeth checked. He told me that my dog should get a cleaning, but that I should wait for a couple of months until they have a discount on that procedure. Following his advice, I decided to wait. Yesterday my dog's mouth started emmitting a putrid odor, so, I took him back to the vet this morning. A different vet, at the same clinic, is now telling me that he has a massive infection in his teeth and gums and that he may need to have up to 4 of his teeth pulled! Should the vet have recognized this and at least told me that this was a possibility during the first visit? Should I hold this clinic responsible?, and, if so, what should I do?

She is 13, it'll cost $238, money isn't an issue, more worried about her not making it through the cleaning and coming out of it. She is in great health. Any advice?

I got 2 basset pups because i read they are very gentle and one of the best dogs to have with kids. The 7 week old pup is very sweet & does not growl or bite. The 8 week old growls and bites every time you try to pick her up and gets very mean. She does this when she's eating to. Will she out grow this? How do i stop her from acting like this?

I have a 6-year-old black moor. He’s in a 15 litre, filtered tank with living plants, a grow light, one small fantail, and a sea snail.

I saw he had white spots on his gills, so I treated the tank for ich.
Turns out the spots are just a sign that it’s mating season, so the treatment was an unnecessary stress to the fish.

The medication dyed the gravel of the tank so I replaced it, and gave the tank a cleanout. I replaced the plants, added the snail, and removed some (not all) of the green algae for aesthetic reasons.

Everything was fine for a day or two, (still is with the small fish) but now my Black Moor has dropsy. (Bloated, pineconeing)
His tail, and fins are also ragged, but I caught him fighting with the other fish, so I’m pretty sure it’s war wounds.

He’s only slightly sluggish, (the ambient temperature around the tank has risen from 22deg C to 27deg C, which might account for it) and he’s still eating very well.

Could the dropsy be linked to stress, or mating?

I've heard of this everywhere, but I am obviously not sure how true it is. I doubted of it working, but I figured I'd see if anyone actually tried this and it worked. I have a small kitty, she was the first one- she's a year and a half old. Then I brought in my sister's giant cat (he's about 4 and a half) in to the home. It's only been a few days so of course they haven't been too nice to each other, but I feel bad for both cats. I don't want my cat to feel like I've replaced her and even after he leaves I don't want her upset with me for the situation I've placed her in. I also don't want him to feel like he's unloved, as he has been in several homes while my sister has been overseas. He's here for a while (At tops a year). Thanks!

I just added my 2 guppies to a tank with 3 tetras (and others) and one of the tetras is attacking them. One guppy had lost all of its beautiful tail in the last 24 hours and is hiding the whole time. The fish shop told me all my fish were compatible with guppies. Whats going on and what should I do?

For the past 2days my dog has been sniffing & licking her belly more than usual(which is hardly anyway). I have checked her belly & there is no rash or anything that looks like its bothering her. Its just unusual behaviour for her. She is is in season & has been spayed. Any reason for this odd behaviour or is it just a silly thing?

He has been crate trained since he was 3 months old. We only put him in his crate at night. The remaining time he is allowed to move around most of the house and can ring a bell on the door to go outside any time he needs or wants to. WE have about 1/2 acre back yard for him to run and play. We play ball/fresbee with him regularly. The problem is after he goes into his crate (volentarily) & we shut it if we put our hand on the screen door he growls & becomes very aggressive. If we open the crate & let him out he becomes very submissive. He is not neudered & is becoming of breeding age. He is a beatiful yellow lab that we have considered breeding. However, we will not breed him & have him neudered if their is not a logical reason for this behavior. Any suggestions?

There is only a small spot on the side of the litter box and only once in a while. It's not as though there is a lot of blood visible in her stool. She has had one litter months ago and she has been spayed since. Otherwise she is very active, happy and healthy.

I have two guinea pigs-both still fairly small- in a 12 sq ft cage. I'm getting two little baby Texels from a breeder this Saturday. Should I try to make a second level, or should 12 ft be enough room for the time being.
Also, my cage is a Cube/Coroplast and it is a pain to clean. Anybody have any good suggestions to make clean-up simpler? I try to spot clean everyday, but I go through a lot of Aspen in a month.
