My cats both used to do that, but once I moved they stopped due to a combination of new desky layout and them getting super lazy. ;-)
Both of them enjoy watching the monitor still, though, and on occasion they'll watch tv if there's a show with animals on. The Planet's Funniest Animals on Animal Planet seems to be their favorite.

I don't have a cat (my hubby's allergic) now but growing up I always did. Before every household had a computer-we used typewriters. My parents had a very old one-it had stick like things for each letter and symbol when the key was pressed the "stick" would come up and strike the paper leaving the mark. Well my cat would watch those sticks moving and hit at them. It was hilarious-but imagine trying to get a report done.

I have 3 cats. 2 Adult and one kitten. One cat can't help himself to jump unto anything that is higher than a chair. Top of my fish tanks, TV . It can be annoying at 3 in the morning when you hear everything come smashing to the floor. He seems totally paranoid of the floor. He will sit on a book that is on the floor before he will sit directly on the floor weirdo..lol. The other cat loves to be in my lap and watch any movement on the comp screen. Kitten is still to small to get up here. In due time, I am sure....

I have 2 cats. Fred Bear and Roscoe. They both like to sit in front of the monitor (flat panel) and they love to hit the screen, when they see the pointer moving around. I think its cute, but its hard to get any work done.

As I have a flat screen, my cat likes to sit on the desk right in front of it so I can't see what I'm doing, and he occasionally headbutts my face because he wants attention. He doesn't chase the cursor, but he does love watching youtube videos of cats and videos of himself that I have made!

I have three cats. One of them will chase the cursor as it moves across the monitor. The other two are too smart and know that it can never be caught.

I have three cats, from the oldest they are Hairy Squatter, Stinky, and Punky Bruiser. Punky likes to lay along the keyboard and watch all the movement on the screen. He hasn't tried to "catch" anything yet, and I hope he doesn't. This set up costs too much money!

I do... it's normal... it's like them always sitting on the newspaper or whatever you are trying to read because they love to have attention on them at all times!
The cursor chasing is just an added benefit for them!

I have 4, 2 of them will do that to the computer and television and anything that moves basically. The other 2 dont do much at all unless catnip or treats are involved.

I have two cats, Duke and Thor and they both sit on my monitor to watch the screen. I think it's adorable but they are getting bigger so I don't know how much longer they will both fit on the monitor without breaking it. =)
