I had a contractor come out and install backyard gates. I noticed that the gate opens outwards which means the latches are also on the outside of the yard. I cant put a lock on the gate if I want. He said it is normal and that most gates work like that? Is this true? He wont return my calls to fix it and I stupidly already paid him.

Dear Yahooligans:

I currently own a battery-operated Skylink motion sensor. I tried to install it around my home (outside) but the sensor keeps making false alarms. When the weather is warm though, the false alarms are SOMETIMES gone for a while. The batteries (9V) just lasted around 3-4 days with false alarms. I think it's because of the cold weather causing these batteries to die. How can I monitor the front entrance of my home (exterior) AND have it protected from the cold? Can I put the sensor on a window? How? Also, if you have a story similar to this one, please share it with us. We'd love to hear from you (I do, at least).

Thank you!

---Stephen

Confusing , but here goes. My sister and her husband just recently moved into a home. That belonged to his moms then girlfriend. They have since broken up. And now this "ex" is talking about wanting to move back into this home with a new girlfriend. The home in question is a mobile home and this person wanted them to pay $800 for it. It is a fixer upper ! They have paid half , have receipts etc. Have applied at the park for residency , had police reports ran on them etc. So that establishes them as residences at that lot number - correct ? This girl was also in contact with the office stating she no longer lived there , had interest in living there and that she was selling to my sister and her husband. Would they not be references should my sister have to battle this out in court ? Now here is the clincher. After all of this we find out this girl is not the true owner someone else is. She still owed another for it. Isn't this man the rightful owner and the only one whom can evict ?

So here's the deal, my fiance and I both have our parents moving this summer. We both have pets that meant alot to us buried in our back yards. The thing is that both of the new neighbors have talked about doing new construction.

How do we make it so they would not even think about disturbing our beloved animals back there. I have a plaque on one of my cat's graves. Should I get one for each??

My fiance is especially worried about this, since he lived in his house his entire life, and the man buying his parent's house is being an a**hole and taking advantage of his parents, since they have to sell their 5+ bedroom house, since they can't afford it anymore. Disturbing his favorite pets remains would be the last straw for my fiance to take.

I told you this, because I need a GOOD answer, so that not even the coldest *%!^ would not disturb the graves.

Please help! Thanks!

My cellar is a cave full of Black Widow spiders (yes they are black widows they have the red hourglass on their backs and everything).

Anyway, my sister and I have tried getting rid of them with Flamethrowers but to no avail. We don't know how to get rid of them?

If there is any expert or someone who has got rid of these spiders in the past can you help me?

Scritch scratch, scritch scratch. It has become a familiar, yet increasingly annoying sound in my living room. Squirrels have invaded my chimney. Well, not my chimney, but the space between my chimney and the outdoor paneling that surrounds the chimney. They've dug underneath the paneling and crawled up. I've filled in the the holes, placed bricks all around, and yet they dig deeper and return. I hear them even as I type this. I really used to like squirrels, but I don't want them in my living room. I'm waiting for one to fall down my chimney and start going bazerk behind the glass. I've also seen them on the roof, crawling into that big round thing on my roof. My neighbors tell me they have squirrels in the attic, but I've yet to hear them in mine. How do I get rid of these critters? I don't really want to hurt them, but sometimes I'm tempted to take a gun and sit in the backyard waiting for them. Is there an inexpensive way to end the scratching....before I go nuts?

The location is west/central florida (and the grass is St. Augustine/Seville). Under the live oak tree there is constantly a ring aroung the outer perimeter of the tree which he cannot ged rid of no matter what spray/ product he tries. The spot is like a brownish color and is only under the described spot around the tree. I'am not sure all that he has used to treat this but hope there is some product and somebody that could point us in the right direction. Thanks for you time if anyone could help us.

I have an homework about manhole covers. The main goal is to obtain the cheapest one which can work out effectively. I have selected two types of materials. One of them is the classical one, cast iron. The other one is reinforced concrete which may be a solution to thefts of manhole covers. I have some questions about details.
1. Which kinds of cast iron are most suitable, economical, safe etc.?
2. The possible disadvantages or any other advantages of reinforced concrete?
3. Cost comparisons between cast iron types and reinforced concrete?
Thanks a lot for any helpful answer.

There is a lease law in this state, but yet the county doesn't want to do anything about it until there is hostility between your neighbors or so it seems. Is there a higher authority to discuss this problem with? Whom will actually do something about it. I live in TN., in the county, but not the city. I have put up with this for several years to no avail. What am I to do??? Should I serve a warrant to keep their pups contained? I can't afford to put fenceing around the perimeter, especially since I don't have the animals that cause the problems. I have cats that don't like to stray. My own contain to their area. I even feed stray felines. I love beauty. That means I spend a lot of time, especially in the spring to beautify my yard, but don't want to see it destroyed by the neighborhood puppy mennices. If there is actually such a word?? What can I do to get justice???

I would like to plant a vegetable garden this spring . I have read raised beds are more beneficial and produce a larger yield . What material i.e. wood/ would help prevent insects in an organic farming kind of way? I thought cedar or redwood.

I am building a house in the tropics and can't get reliable specs for the varying concrete mixtures I will need. Every contractor has a different story. I believe the concrete will be stronger if mixed with sharp gravel aggregate. What is the best mix for: Foundations, large blocks (approx 49cm x 29cm x15cm), mortar, floor fill, steps. The house will be one story but needs to be strong enough in case we decide later to add a story.
Also does anyone know how many blocks of above dimensions i can expect to get out of a 50kg bag of cement (specify mixture)?

I have been having a terrible time with gophers damaging both my yard and plants and I'm wondering if turning the leaves of my Oleander plant into the soil might help me get rid of them. I have planted castor beans but can't see that they have deterred them in the least. I have been reading about how toxic the Oleander is and I do have one, so I'm wondering if digging it into the soil might help. I don't want to poison any animals and although I've had this plant for probably 3 yrs. without any incidents, I'm fearful that some cat, dog or child might ingest part of it and from everything I'm reading, it is highly toxic and shouldn't even be touched.
