Why do people in the UK always shut doors they have come out of in their own home?

I have seen it on many UK TV shows...I dont know if this is true or not, but my Nan says (who has dementia but has a good memory for when she was younger) says it was to do with the war WW1) when the bombs were being hit.....

My mother in law is from England and she grew up in the ww2. and she closes all the doors all the time drives me crazy. Maybe it has something to do with the war.
