i started with a 3' x 3' patch and now its 3' x 12' how do i thin it and control it.it is now very thick and limits the growth thanks

Since strawberries are self propogating (they spread) you will need to dig up the plants in a way to allow more space for the plants you want to keep. You may be able to relocate the dug-up plants to another area.

Be careful when you thin it out. Make sure you leave both males and female plants to produce fruit. You can pull and thin into rows or however you like. They are like a ground-cover.
You could try an edging to contain it, but they might go over the top.

If you are thinning it out, why not freecycle what you pull. I am sure that there are people who would love to start a strawberry patch but cannot afford to buy 'em at $4!

Sounds like good advice..Ive had mmy strawberries for about 2 years and havent done much to them and they have been producing pretty good. Gonna go try the methods I just read about....will keep you posted.
