Light switch in bathroom controls overhead fan and fluorescent lights. They begain flickering after many years of bright non-flickering use. I followed suggestions found on internet. Replaced bulbs and, when that did not solve problem, replaced the ballast. Problem continues with flickering and low level of illumination. No problem with fan.

Any electricians want to explain why this is? Is it a safety feature?

We have 5 ceiling-mounted, hard-wired, dual-tube flourescent lights in our garage, switched from the wall. The ballasts are black rectangular boxes.

When I turn them on, two of them don't usually light. If I flip the switch 15-20 times, these lights will come on - sometimes one bulb, sometimes both bulbs, & sometimes one or both will just flicker.

If I continue flipping the switch until they both illuminate fully, and leave them on for an hour or more (approximately), then they will light with no problem when I turn them off and back on again.

Are fluorescent ballasts heat sensitive, so even if failing, they will work okay if heated up? Or does it sound like it could be just the bulbs?

I'd just change the bulbs, but it's an 18 foot ceiling, and I'd rather at least have a clue before I climb up there and start messing around.

Also, even the ballasts for these fixtures are a bit pricey, so I'd like to know before I invest the money in ballasts I may not need.

Thanks!

It just stopped working yesterday, i didn't notice to begin with but it started to get cold, when i checked the central heating wasn't on. I looked at the boiler and the pilot light ws out. I reignighted the pilot light and it sounded like it was working, but then it started making a clonking sound and cut out. I have tried this several times, but it keeps doing the same thing. What could it be and how could it be fixed. I will call a gas engineer out tommorrow, think it could be costly........

I was mowing for the first time this spring and when I was almost done it shot out a giant plume of white smoke and died. Its a cheap 3 yr old mower. I changed the oil before hand, the air filter looks pretty clean. Should I have done something else to bring it out of winter? I think it overheated probably since I was on a steep hill and the grass was pretty high. Help?

I was intending to install a dedicated 220v recepticle, but the cost of doing this verses buying a 3000 watt, 220v continuous use transformer (about $100-$150) seems somewhat cheaper and so much less labor intensive. I realize it's preferred to wire a permanent installation, but I'd like to save time and trouble. How simple to only have to plug in a transformer instead of spending a few days with a wiring project? How practicle is this implementation?

I'm teaching myself some basic electronics just as a hobby. My question is does the neg. lead on both a NPN & PNP transistor always connect to the neg. side of the power supply? I want to be able to build some basic electronics projects and know more than just where each component goes by looking at the directions. I know the proper way to learn this would be to study up on all different parts but this is purely as a as time allows hobby. Where can I find some information on circuit board design 101. Thanks

I live in Dallas Texas and I've noticed a light looking yellowish powder substance all over the surface of my sky blue Camery. Anyone know what it might be? I've seen it on other vehicles also in the last few days. Do you live somewhere else and have it on your car too?????

I just had a fence installe, 6ft privacy fence made of pressure treated pine. It cost a lot of $ but now the guy who put it in wants to charge me more to seal it or he says it will warp when it gets wet. Why didn't he tell me this before?! I budgeted for the fence but don't have the extra $700 to seal it now, if I don't do it is the wood going to be wrecked for sure? How long would it take to warp? I'm planning on being in this house for 5 years and then selling it. Should I try to seal it myself or is it a big job? Thanks for any responses!

I live in a house with 4 apt's. All three of us have a landis model electric meters running out electricity, but the one aprt at top, best apt here has (GE meter model electric meter)?

I notice she dont; compain about high bills only all three of us.
-3 same meters, landis brand and one GE meter brand ?

The other apartment has had a replacement meter, brand new one. hasn't changed the PUC consumption one bit ??

Is our 3 meters ridged, or tampered by utility company before brought in ? we all have baseboard heaters, I guess they can blame our usuage on that ? Could i have a junction point spliced with top floor, using my bill ?

any suggestion on this ?

I recently learned that the home I purchased in 2000 (that was totally remodeld)
had sewer back ups going back as far as 1995.When Metropolitan Sewer of St.
Louis Mo.backed up on me in 2002 the head guy of his crew admitted the problem was on them,4 flushes to get it to finally break and clear. That morning
when they came here,I told the Head Guy that the old man(by voice)told me that
I must have a dead rat in my basement.I was thrown for a loop as well as the Head Guy and he had the insurance adjuster out here ASAP as the problem
should of been done that day.Every couple of years this happens but the water
floats above my pipes and that nasty water is coming up through a small crack
in basement flooring.2 backs up in the past 3 months. My stack was t.v scoped
and my lateral and all was just fine.$24.00 a month on bill,I stopped paying until
they hold to their words as to placing a Belly between their 6 ft deep pipes to my
5 ft below pipes.I owe them $108.00 Lien for threat.

Last year we developed a problem in our line. jets in pool work fine although we do have some air coming through one of jets in shallow end which I know to be bad if you see bubbles. Anyways , no suction. Cant vacuum the pool with the hose and our Hayward sand filter. I backwash and do everything I am supposed to. I think I need to replace the sand as I have never done this since moving in 3 years ago. We do have a leak but right now what I need are answers on how to remove the debris (dirt silt some grass and a lot of algae dust ) I shocked pool and its is clear and clean but leftover algae on bottom, and a lot of it. I bought one of those portable vacuums but it wont clean this ampount of dirt and debris. Do pool companies have a good size portable vacuum that does not need to be connected to my filter and hose? Is there a chemical burn off that is safe for vinyl pools and will burn this off. I need this fixed but need to know more because pool guys not real helpful when I call.

I have -+ 12v mains feed.
2 single action micro switch's (powered when held. 1each for left and right.)
The Motor has a -+ and the above action is its normal function.
I need to replace a Circuit board that had other function on it, some of which had failed.
I now need to make a wired circuit to replace it or pay £107.00 to turn the motor.
Thanks for your time in reading this.
