Today when I went to take a shower I turned the know on and nothing happend. However when I turned it the other way (towards cold/off) the water came on. The knob turns a little both ways with the middle being off now. It does not turn enough either way to get the hot water to turn on or have a full stream. Everything was fine yesterday and no one else uses this shower. This shower knob is a single knob - Turn all the way to the right for off and turn left to turn it on and more left to add hot water. I did not have time to take it apart before I had to leave this a.m. Anyone know what the problem could be? Maybe it just got out of alignment or something?

Do dryer and washer machines etc. use electricity when not in use? (when they're plugged in all the time.) Thanks.

I'm in the process of finishing my basement and only have the ceiling left to complete. I used metal studs for the framing and am using a metal grid system for a drop ceiling. How should I attach the wall molding to the walls? The manufacturer says to use nails, but that's obviously not an option with the metal studs. Would a drywall screw meant for metal framing work?

Why is there always a pool of water in the bottom of my fridge? I have to keep mopping it up. Sometimes the walls ice up and then when it goes on defrost it drips water on the bottom. Am I supposed to be constantly changing the temperature or what? Should it be high or low?

If I were to purchase a deadbolt lock at Home Depot, how hard or easy would it be for me to change it myself? I am somewhat mechanically inclinded (but not really), but I have very little experience in maintenence repairs, etc. I can read & follow directions pretty well, as far as installation instructions....

I'd prefer to avoid paying an over-inflated fee to a locksmith to do something I may possibly be able to do myself.
Also, I really don't like it when a reapir/service person won't even give me a ballpark figure over the phone, and yet they charge a flat-rate fee JUST TO SHOW UP. I mean.... I have made it clear that I am not looking for an exact quote--just a ballpark figure, is all.
I'd really prefer to do this myself, if possible.

The last time I turned it on, everything worked fine. Today, my wife turns it on and nothing. I checked it now and I don't even smell gas, but my cooktop is working fine. Is it dead or is it fixable?

My husband and I decided to replace our old furnace. But which one should we prioritze first? We arguing about upgrading our windows first or replacing our furnace. For me, I want to upgrade the windows first because our windows are old(22 y/o). Everytime I stand 2 to 3 feet away from all of our windows, I could feel the cold. I check for any air leak using a candle but couldn't find anything. I even sealed them but still. We wanted to replace our furnace to cut our heating bill and save money. For me, i think it is useless to replace to furnace first while having an old windows which I think the reason why we are receiving this huse heating bill. We could only afford one project right now. The furnace is old too, it is working but not that good anymore, so we have to replace it. It is at the end of its life.

My natural gas furnace has been making a slight humming noise for the past few months or so, but it's been working just fine, so I didn't really pay much attention to it. But now it is getting really loud. Haven't opened it up or taken a look at it. Any ideas what might cause this or what it takes to fix?

We just bought a brand spankin new house with a corner jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom. My fiance's family told us to clean it by filling it with water, add a bit of Clorox, and run the jets for 1/2 an hour. The water turned brown and stained our brand new tub! YUK! I've slowly been able to clean it...but I want to know why this happened. Help please!

I recenlty ran out of propane. I only use it for cooking so I have a fifty gallon tank. The tank is the propane companies tank. Anyway, I called to have them come and fill it. When I asked how much it was I was told $4.50 a gallon for "Cooking Propane". Hmmm....Who knew? Anyway, I asked why so much? I was told becuase I only am getting 50 Gallons. I asked how much it would be if I was getting a hundred gallons? I was told $2.37. The propane company in question is a small family owned operation only about 2 miles from my house.

This basically made me want to just call the electrician and have him throw a 220 line down for me to put a new stove in. I called a few other propane companies. One said they were charging $6.30 a gallon for "Cooking Propane". They make it seem like they have to do some special mixture so you can cook with it. It is totally rediculous. All forms of energy should be GOVT Regulated. None of this Free Enterprise Crap for natural resources.

i need what i think is a u-trap or p-trap. it should be equal length on both sides and pvc material. not using it for plumbing but to assist my students with their pitch matching when singing in class.

one end is held at the mouth and the other held up to the ear. it sounds crazy but really works. i purchased these once before at a hardware store but don't remember exactly what they are called. can someone who knows plumbing materials tell me what it is called and where i can buy them about 30 or them?
