DO NOT USE BLEACH ON ASPHALT SHINGLES!!!!! You will deteriorate them to about half of there warrantied or useful life span. spray the roof with a mix of dish soap and water let it sit for about 2 hours the rinse it you may need to do this 2-4 times but it will work. also never try to scrub your shingles with a broom or anything else you may want to spray then later with an algeacide and or a fungicide

Black streaks is also coming from uncovered nail heads if the shingles were improperly nailed. We get black streaks here in Texas also. Power washers take them off however can damage the roof. Check out this web site.

Wow and I would have guessed bleach but the fungicide make more sense.....Do you think Monistat- 7 would stay on longer being a heavier cream base? Just kidding I agree with the no scrub and no pressure wash part anyhow but somebody else has me beat on the best answer... Good luck

Use cheap powdered laundry detergent. Spread it lightly on the roof. It will absorb moisture on its on and the rain will wash it off. The change in the PH will kill the moss/fungus and lighten the dark areas.

That is fungus. Get a fungicide and a sprayer. Do not use bleach. Makes the shingles turn and crack.
