a toilet snake is next cost about 10 to 20 bucks at hardware store, if you are on a septic system make sure your tanks are not full because if they are that may be your only problem.

Well the plunger is the most popular that is for sure, but if you don't have one of those then some times you can take the tank lid off and raise the level in the bowl by lifting the flapper or what ever type of mechanism you have on your toilet that lets water go into your bowl. Raise it right to the rim and some times with all the water weight it will push the plug out. If that is not your cup of tea there is a device called a Closet auger. That is the thing that one of the ladies had mentioned and I guess her husband is a plumber. I am a plumber too. Personally I'd just get a plunger. Nothing Fancy just a plain upside down bowl looking one with a rod sticking out of it. looking one

Metal toilet snake thing.
It's a long metal coil with a crank on the handle to spin it around. It's acts like a drill and drills through the clog, breaking it up into pieces that will drain.
My deepest apologies for the picture that conjures.

Your next step should be a tool called a "closet auger". You can purchase one inexpensively at any hardware or home improvement store.
