I was told that because wood-burning fireplaces have huge exahust therefore if I use gas logs I loose a lot of heat so it works mostly as a decorative rather than heating unit. is this true? btw, my wood-burning fire place's designed for gas logs to be installed and hast an 8 1/2" exahst pipe.

The handle on the toilet has to be held down in order for it to flush completely. I replaced the handle (because the nut seemed tight already), and it worked fine for about 4 flushes, and now it's back to how it was before. The only things that I can come up with is that I over-tightened the replacement (breaking it), or the flapper is strangely too heavy, or it's something I don't know. Please help. Thanx.

We are renting this house. This morning my daughter was vacuuming and the outlet caught fire and began to burn. I threw all the breakers in the house. And unplugged everything from that particular outlet. When my hubby came home we called the landlord who said he was sending out an electrician that day (by the way he never came). And we began to see what rooms we could turn on in our house and mark the breakers because they were not marked. What we discovered was that the breaker that carried the outlet that caught fire also carried half the kitchen, den, diningroom, livingroom, bedroom, and laundry room.
Now I don't know much about electricity but isn't that too much? What should I make sure that this electrician when he come tomorrow, does?
I have to keep the breaker to all these rooms off because if I throw them on the fire starts back.

We have had the gas company here and he says that the fireplace is just very efficeint and that is why it burns blue. I like the fact it pumps out lots of heat but it looks horrible and during the day you can't even see the flames! Not very romantic or relaxing. Just wondering if there is a way to make it burn less efficient or create more orange flame. Thanks....

It's getting too high. I know I'm only 13 to worry about it but whatever (^_^). Is there anyway to get it lower?

I know saving electricity and water is the best bet but we just use too much everyday. It's because my parents own and manage a grocery store where they run loads and loads of elctricty everyday and we use water a lot.

Any suggestions please? Only serious answers.....PLEASE

My Maytag washing machine has minor leakage from the gap between th hinged top and the side panels of the washing machine. I have removed the front panel and hinged the top open. I have examined the water fill hose that fills the tub, but I can't tell if the hose has a crack in it or not. How can I tell where the leak is coming from? How easy is it to replace this hose? Thanks for the help!

Hi I accidentally poked a hole as big a one tic-tac in the freezer shelve of my mini-frig. Gas bursted out of it like in the movies for a couple of seconds. I tried plugging it up with a silicone earplug but the freezer and frig doesnt work now and it has that distinct gas smell when I open it up. How can I fix the small hole and is that gas bad for my health?

my garage door is acting all wonky. When I tried to open it, it wouldn't open. And then miraculously, it decided to open itself in the middle of the night. When I open it, it only opens part of the way, stays open for a few minutes and then closes again. I've tried unplugging it and then plugging it back in. Is there a reset button? What else can I do?

Now this is a question for the real appliance sluths. Everytime I go on vaction I turn the house water off in case a pipe breaks and we get flooded. However, the past few time I have noticed alot of water on the floor in the kitcken coming out of the dishwasher. The water leaks onto the floor and is ruining cabinets from the moisture. I think somehow the dishwasher is filling up and is being forced out the door. I could turn off the water control valve to the dishwasher also but that valve is old and leaks if I just touch it the slightest bit. I will probably just repalce the valve to a better one anyway, but I'm just confused as to how the whole problem is happening, thanks all, John

I'm being told that if I power wash my patio in cold weather it will cause it to crack. Does anyone know if there's any truth to this? It seems to me it won't make a difference but it never hurts to ask.
