Now this is a question for the real appliance sluths. Everytime I go on vaction I turn the house water off in case a pipe breaks and we get flooded. However, the past few time I have noticed alot of water on the floor in the kitcken coming out of the dishwasher. The water leaks onto the floor and is ruining cabinets from the moisture. I think somehow the dishwasher is filling up and is being forced out the door. I could turn off the water control valve to the dishwasher also but that valve is old and leaks if I just touch it the slightest bit. I will probably just repalce the valve to a better one anyway, but I'm just confused as to how the whole problem is happening, thanks all, John

The water is definately coming into the dishwasher and out through the door. If that is the case then what valve is not working? Is the connecting hose that goes into the dishwasher maybe bad? or is there a pressure pump/valve inside the dishwasher that is allowing the water inside. Its possible that the dishwasher is the lowest spot in the house and the remaining watwer is settling there. I could just leave the faucets open and let them drain out, but a friend did that next door and a neighbor opened the faucet with them on vacation and flooded there entire house, yikes, thanks John

Don't throw out the dishwasher! If the seals were leaking, it would be worse with it running. What is happening is the valve is always leaking, the moisture is being absorbed by the cabinets and the surrounding air, which is then dried out by the furnace or A/C. While you are gone. The furnace, or A/C don't pull the moisture out, so the cabinets can't absorb all the water and it runs down the hose to the lowest point under the dishwasher and drips to the floor, and runs into the room.

The leaky shut off valve is sealing at full pressure. When you shut off the main the pressure bleeds off and it leaks.

turn the water ff and go outside and open the faucets.....leave them open.....this will drain the pipes and keep the pressure off the lines......
