Sounds like delayed ignition, your burners are not igniting simultaneously. Call your local gas company for necessary adjustments.......

DO NOT DELAY!! Call a professional heater service repair and have them inspect your furnace. The popping sound you hear is like a backfire in a car, the resulting popping of gas can cause some serious problems. It could be as simple as cleaning of the furnace, or something more costly, but your life and the lives of your loved ones should be your main concern, especially if the pop is sufficient to cause the door of the furnace to be opened. Call today!!

Wow, this is interesting. When I thought I heard it all before, this one is a new one on me.

First things first; call your gas company. Get it looked after.

I do not want to be anywhere near that furnace when it does that the next time. It is obvious there is a small gas leak and when it comes on, the leaked gas burns and explodes. You can't afford this lack in safety.

Its more than likely your ductwork. When the blower comes on it pressurizes the duct work and pushes the metal outward. When it shuts down the metal will "pop" back into place. Go down in the basement and listen carefully when it shuts down, you should be able to find the piece of duct that's guilty of popping. After you find it, screw a piece of wood or something in that area so it cannot expand or contract.
