Try using toothpaste and a damp soft cloth to polish the surface .

The acid etched the glass and you probably will either live with it or replace the top. Call the manufacturer and ask their customer relations for advice.You could also call a auto glass place and ask what they use to polish glass .

You could repaint it with high temp paint then sand it with fine sand paper till it shines like a car.Two or three coats ought to do it.
