I'm being told that if I power wash my patio in cold weather it will cause it to crack. Does anyone know if there's any truth to this? It seems to me it won't make a difference but it never hurts to ask.

Depends how cold... the thing to be worried about is that water will seep into the cracks of the concrete and (if cold enough) freeze. Ovbiously when water freezes it expands and will make any cracks in your patio larger. (Keep in mind temps are colder during the night so if you do decide to wash it give it as much time to dry during the day as possible!)

Good Luck

As long as the temperature will stay above freezing and you have plenty of daylight to dry out your patio, the outside temperature shouldn't matter when you power wash your patio. If it's freezing, the water can get down into cracks and freeze. The freezing water expands and causes the crack to grow larger.

If you are using a steam , or hot water power washer, someone might think it would crack, because of it getting hot and then cold, but it won't. You could hurt the power washer, if it freezes up, but not the patio. It rains and snows in the winter right? So your patio is getting wet and sometimes freezing, right?
