Waht to do when growing amaryllis from seed?

2007-12-24 00:42:08 · 0 answers · asked by Anonymous

I have two problems birds and flies.

It is sickening to see flies do black poop on my plants and they leave a black dots on my lovely plants. I am looking for some household remedies for this problem. I have tried spraying a mild liquid dish washing liquid with water on my plants. I think it does help a little but i am not sure if the soapy water will harm my plants when it goes to soil.

What do i do with birds that eat my plants. I have done some netting on younger plants and i cannot cover the whole garden with net.

Any solutions!

to lure the elusive bluejay? Since they are carnivores, after all. But they've come to my feeders nonetheless. Thoughts?

I know this sounds crazy, but I heard someone talking about smoking tomatoes. More specific, and a bit odd, smoking the stems of them?

haha, crazy. Does anyone know about this, or maybe even about just smoking any sort of veggie/fruit?

Insta-Snow is made of an absorbing polymer so it would be holding water for the seeds to take in. And if you put it in the sun or a bright light it might work. What do you think.

I am not a green fingered person but i do love flowers i mentioned that i like Orchids in a room full of people and for my birthday back in April guess what i got?? not one but THREE Orchids. (should have told them i liked sports cars too :-)
I almost killed one to much water from the top of the pot.
Yes i know now its a no no.
Well its now December the last of the flowers are just dying off the last one but i have noticed little bugs they are whiteish and furry. my questions are
1. What are they?
2. Are they harmful to the Orchid if yes in what way?
3. Can i get Rid of them?
4. Should i get rid of them and how?
I know i sound like the usual novice because i a but im am proud of the fact they are still alive and apart from their lodgers they look quiet healthy. I would love to see them flower next year that would be the ultimate.

Thanks in advance x

If I apply a store-bought systemic insecticide on vegetable plants, after how many years will it be safe to eat the vegetables?

Would the chemicals still be present in a harmful amount after three years?

Thanks,

I bought two amaryllis flower bulbs that come in a box. One for myself and the other for my sister. We planted them at the same time and placed them both in a window sill where they will get a lot of sun, and they both seemed to be doing alright. I noticed that hers is growing faster and is getting ready to bloom (you can see the red petals ready to open) byt my flower looks about the same as it did when I planted it. The stem where the bloom would be seems to have a tear and to me doesn't seem like it will ever bloom. Should I trim that part off? And will another stalk/stem/bloom appear? There seems to be something that looks like what could be a stem with a bloom, but being new to amaryllis flowers, I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

i realized that dracaena marginata, if not in a cluster clister, gets spindly looking as it matures and the lower leaves fall off. to remedy this i planted sum english ivy in the pot with it. the marginata is still full of leaves lower and upper but i figured it would be best to get an early start with the ivy. i plan to wrap the ivy around the stalk of the marginata as it gets bare. is this a good idea?

I bought some recently and planted them, but apparently they don't spread. Is this true? Do I need to plant them very close together to get some color? I bought more, and did that, but it still doesn't look all that great. Am I expecting too much out of them? Also, will they survive occasional freezing weather, even when the temperature doesn't go over freezing for around 72 hours before warming back up above freezing?
I live in western North Carolina in the mountains.
I also bought some phlox today, hoping it will survive, even though I planted it today. I assume it's pretty hardy, since it didn't die off when we had freezing weather a couple of times already. Suggestions? Advice?

Inherited from my deceased great-aunt two years ago. The plant was so big it broke the plastic pot and is now in a clay one. I'm not so much concerned with the lack of blooms, and I have done extensive research on the care and keeping of Christmas cactus. I would propagate it but the plant itself isn't big enough to harvest cuttings.

The fronds broke off about 6 months ago and all that is left is a 6in 'Y' stem with one segment. The stem is woody and firm; a piece broke off the other day and I saw that it was green on the plant, but the piece was dried out so I discarded it.

The root ball is firm, the roots themselves are not soggy and have a yellow-brownish color.... turgor is good.

I have been overly zealous with watering so today I rinsed off the root ball and it is on a plate in a warm area so it can dry out a bit. The soil is extremely wet also.

Are the roots still viable and does the plant sound as if it's still alive?

I have been trying to figure out the rose variety of a certain rose for some time. my local florist sells them but when i asked the name they did not know. it looks almost excactly like the rose in this photograph but it is more orange with red tips rather then yellow with red tips. any clues as to what type a rose this might be? http://www.flickr.com/photos/ranhar2/130247924/

I had an impatien plant for 2 years...it was a gift from one of my children for Mother's Day. Anyway, it lived in a hanging basket and was fine. I would give it a shot of liquid Miracle-gro about every three months.

For both years, I repotted it in the early summer and put it outside for the warm months. It did wonderfully outdoors, blooming profusely. I was even able to root a second plant from a bit that broke off.

The first year, I brought the plants back in, and the blooming stopped for the winter, but the plants were leafy and well. This year, when I brought them back in, they turned sickly and limp, the stems became wrinkled and mushy and sections began dying. I tried covering them with a clear plastic bag to protect from drafts, but they just looked worse.

They're still alive, but almost all of the leaves have gone and the stems all have a pointed, dried end. Can I save my Mother's Day plant??

Every Christmas the world is bombarded with poinsettias and by New Year's the plants all look, leggy worn out and half dead. And then people agonize about how to take care of them because someone special gave them the poinsettia. I love flowers, plants, trees but I cant stand poinsettias. They are too much trouble to care for, die almost at once, and people pay good money for a plant that most people have no idea how to care for.
