I know this sounds crazy, but I heard someone talking about smoking tomatoes. More specific, and a bit odd, smoking the stems of them?

haha, crazy. Does anyone know about this, or maybe even about just smoking any sort of veggie/fruit?

Don't think I'll be smokin a tomato joint anytime soon but I do smoke tomatoes. First I slice them thick and salt them lightly and dry them in a food dehydrator. Then I cold smoke them (80 degrees) with apple wood for about 2hrs. Excellent with crackers and cream cheese, on sandwiches and in lasagna. RScott

You don't want to try and smoke a tomato plant. Whoever told you this is probably trying to kill you. It is a member of the deadly nightshade family, one of the most poisonous plants out there. Only the fruit of a tomato plant is edible. If you eat the stems or leaves you will go blind or die. If you smoke them I imagine it would irritate your throat so badly that it would cause raw blisters all the way down into your lungs. You don't want to have to explain at the hospital that you were trying to smoke a tomato plant.

If you are looking for a legal high, look into using fresh nutmeg as a drug. You should be able to find it in stores since it's around Christmas for baking, etc. The dried powder will not work because the active ingredient is in the oil, so don't bother. You need to find them whole and grate them up yourself. I should warn you that eating pure, raw nutmeg has such a bad taste that it might cause you to vomit so you might want to mix it with something like orange juice. You will still definately taste it but not nearly as bad. Also don't eat any MAO inhibitors with it such as cocoa.

Yes, you can, but it's extremely dangerous. Tomatoes are members of the genus Solanum, which includes nightshade and belladonna. The leaves and stems contain a tropane alkaloids, from which (among other things) atropine is made. They are HIGHLY toxic; you couldn't PAY me enough to smoke material from any of these plants, because I wouldn't last long enough to enjoy it!

Hello,
Could this be for the small amount of nicotine tomatoes contain??

Only reason I can think of as to why anyone would even contemplate smoking tomato plants....
