It is a sandy climate. I'm from Kansas. I used to water plants on a trickle for 30 minutes then switch to another plant. Do I do the same even though I'm in a sandy climate?

I have cut it down numerous times and it just keeps coming back. I would like to get rid of it in a way that is as environmentally friendly as possible.

I have alot of indoor plants, low light lovers and higher light lovers, I kind of want to put a full spectrum light in bedroom light fixture, is this safe? I just can imagen setting it up then comeing back and finding my room burned down. lol, What sort of wattage would that be. I also want to put a plant in the bathroom with a growlight, but is there one small and safe enough?

Oh, I am also on a very tight budget, I am not looking to grow prize winning plants, just enough so they don't die.

*extra info* I have a south east faceing window, in the basement.

I recently bought a home. The front yard is awful. We need to redo all the plants, add one tree, and remove the old walkway and add a new one. We are not handy people. Is this something we could contract Home Depot to do? Or, should we consult a landscape architect? Money is VERY limited. Does anyone have advice and do you know about how much something like this costs?

I have a question about Fuji Apple Tree. I have been watering it daily and been using Miracle Grow every 3 months however the leaves seem to be dry and not much apples have come out from the tree lately. Is there something that I am doing wrong and what ways can I nurture the tree back to good health?

Hi all,
My new house has thistles mixed in with plants and shrubs around my house. They penetrated the mulch and I am starting to see some patches in my front lawn. I have pulled them-they grow again-I pulled and shot round up in the hole-they grown back-a little yellow-but still growing-any suggestions??? I have thought about taking all the mulch off and laying down black tarp-but I dont want to destroy the "good" plants.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!!

I am wanting to plant something in my flowerbeds and wondering if there is anything that is low maintenence yet good looking. By low maintenence I mean I dont have to water it or take care of it all year long and when it dies, it dosen't make a mess with leaves everywhere.

There are landscape timbers around it already, it is 5x5 and full of tall grass-not too high off the rest of the ground. How do I get rid of the grass and get it ready for a vegetable garden next spring?

step-by-step please...i am willing to read long answers!

Assuming I have about 900 ft2, all flatwork, and they have to tear out the old concrete, and pour the new. By the way I live in colorado, but I would be curious to see what other people have paid (recently) in any areas.

Any ideas on how to move the bees into a new hive?
I live in Miami, 5 months ago honeybees (not hybrids of Africans) took up residence inside my attic. They gain entry from a small diameter eve vent hole. (I have a barrel tile roof). The hive is in the eve and is now about 4 feet wide, hanging from rafters.
I do not wish to kill the bees. All beekeepers I have spoken to want to exterminate or cut giant holes in my ceilings. Also I cannot find a beekeeper willing to crawl on his/her belly in my attic and cut out the hive.
I was told that oil of almond (artificial acetaldehyde) deters them. I tried this, but they loved it.
I am looking for a humane (bee-friendly) method to make them leave. After they leave I will plug up the eve vent holes so they don't return, and find a very small person (possible a family of garden dwarfs, Ha!) who will crawl in my attic and eat the honey. (Then I might be writing to you asking how to get rid of dwarfs in my attic, Ha!)
Seriously

I'm in Florida, the pond is about 18 inches deep at the shallow end and about 3' deep at the other end with a waterfall. The entire pond gets lots of sun even though there is a large avacado tree over the shallow end. I purchased an upgraded filtration system when the pond was installed. The rocks on the floor of the shallow end are covered with a fuzzy green moss. I do have some plants in the water. What can I do to eliminate this?

Many of you are probably aware of fire ants. However, for a few years now there have been experiments with a small insect called the phorid, a type of winged insect which burrows into the head of the ant to lay eggs, I understand.

North Carolina, Florida, and Texas were experimenting with them. Have the phorids been brought out to the private sector?

I used the hoe to go at some dandelions and other weeds that had taken over the border at the front of our lawn. Its a new house we've moved into, incidentally.

I had landscape gardener visit today and they said that I probably made things a lot worse by using the hoe instead of uprooting the weeds.

Is there a way I can recover the situation? Will weedkiller of any kind work, and how will this affect the lawn and / or anything else i want to plant on that border?

In Knox County and McHenry County, Illinois, there are earwigs rampant, galore, everywhere you look outdoors.

My daughter in south Georgia reports earwigs too. Has anyone else noticed more than usual? Why are they so abundant?
