It depends on the needs of you and your lawn. Yes yard machines is a good brand and Toro is a step up from that brand, but also take into consideration of the type of mower that you need. Ask yourself these questions:
1. How big is my lawn, or is it on an incline?
If the lawn is rather large, or is hilly, you may want a self-propelled mower to keep your workload down.
2. Do you have good range of motion and strength?
You may want to consider an electric start if starting by a cord is difficult for you.
3. What do you do with the clippings?
If you like to keep your clippings on the yard then a 3-1 mower may be for you. If you bag and toss your clippings then a basic mower will do.
I hope that these guidelines will help you in purchasing the right mower for you.

You can go high end like a Honda or low end. Either way, the engine is the most important thing. Look for a Briggs & Stratton engine. I had a Yard Machine for about 8 years and it worked great. I upgraded to a Toro but they both have B&S engines.

Employees of Home Depot get Friends & Family coupons once per quarter and it's good for 10% off anything in the store. I heard you can even find these coupons on EBay. If you know you are going to spend a bunch, might be worth getting a 10% coupon first. Good luck.

A new Toro push mower starts at $299. I would not buy a new Toro lawn tractor, because Toro is not making tractors anymore. MTD makes the machines for them. My suggestion for a tractor would be a Snapper or Simplicity.

You can get a replacement engine for your mower for about $100. That way you still have a toro(tecumseh) and save $50-$100

a Yard Machine is a very good brand. It has a Brigs and Straton engine. I've had mine for years and they can run under $200.00 and are great on gas.
