In Knox County and McHenry County, Illinois, there are earwigs rampant, galore, everywhere you look outdoors.
My daughter in south Georgia reports earwigs too. Has anyone else noticed more than usual? Why are they so abundant?

Below is a link to a page introducing a couple of varieties of earwig. I think the one we are seeing in Illinois is the Euborellia annulipes, but I will have to take a closer look. Does anyone else know?

It seems that not only heat but moist weather encourages earwigs. Here's another link, this time from Iowa:

I live ouside of Toronto and we are inundated with them. The little beggars only come out at night to do their evil deeds. I wouldn't mind so much but they eat the actual flower petals before they even have a chance to open. It must have something to do with the extreme heat wave we are experiencing. Winter doesn't have many benefits but not having insects around is one of them.

The number of earwigs is also on the rise in Wisconsin at my summer home while I was there last week. They are becoming more resistant to pesticides and bacteria due to the excess use of anit-bacterial soaps found in water runoff sources. If you have a large rabbit population, the numbers will decrease slightly. Also, if you coat the base of your tress with tar, they will not burrow into them. That is one of the only solutions aside from moving north to Canada.

Yep, was a good year here too. Eliminate the plant debris, dryout the garden, they will move on. I was harvesting hollyhock seed yesterday at a hotel and got several earwigs in my hand when grabbed the seed capsule. That gets your attention!

I misplaced a point 7 account numerous months in the past. I had no warning and it have been better than 3 weeks considering the fact that I even had a contravention. there replaced into no explanation as to why and that i've got not the slightest concept what led to it. the reality that there have been no violations around it tells me it got here from the Yahoo team. there replaced into not something to grant them a trend. I basically laughed and moved to a backup account.

hmmm yea. im out in fox lake and i believe its because its been so wet lately. Check wood outside. Earwigs love dead damp molding wood. Wodchips and mulch also. You can always try to kill them with pesticides.
