I am wanting to plant something in my flowerbeds and wondering if there is anything that is low maintenence yet good looking. By low maintenence I mean I dont have to water it or take care of it all year long and when it dies, it dosen't make a mess with leaves everywhere.

Get some cactus, they can bear any climate, and don't need maintenance, just some water once in a while

are you wanting LOW maintenance or NO maintenance, if you don't plan to do anything not even clean up at the end of the year, I would suggest you put plastic down fill the bed with white or decorative rocks and if you want flowers buy plastic ones and poke them in all over you can change the colors for the seasons, I know of no live plants you can put in not water, not take care of or clean up after.

cactus or other succulents -- Of course, it depends on your location too. How hot does it get, how cold does it get, that sort of thing. Also there are many sizes of plants depending on the size of your flowerbeds.

Also grasses are low maintenance. Such as fountain grass, zebra grass, ribbon grass, etc.

You can plant all those things and they do require little maintenance but you have to water them or they will die that's all there is to it.

It would depend on where you live. I would not advise unless I have that information because what works for one zone may not work for another. Plants can be expensive so I wouldn't want you to throw your money away on account of bad info.
