I live in Illinois and just moved in to a new house with a big brick flower box that was full of weeds. Is it too late to plant flowers? It's a large space, so I need something that is on the larger side and that will grow fast.

My soil is mostly sandy. I have amended the soil with amonium sulfate. The vine looked great, then after over 2" of rainfall in one evening, the leaves turned yellow, wilted with the sunshine & the pumpkin got soft & brown.

I have a medium/large yard with a fairly short fence. I want a greater sense of privacy in my yard. I think I would rather opt for a natural barrier than replacing all of my current fence. I am willing and able to care for whatever I plant, but would appreciate any tips about good trees or shrubs for the job.

I've often loved the idea of just quitting everything and buying a little piece of land (say 5-10 acres) with a house and maybe and outbuilding or two - and trying to make a modest income from that - but have no idea what small farms do to make money. That's certainly not enough land to say have a dairy farm - or (I'd think) to grow enough of a crop to make much of a profit. I've thought of maybe a small greenhouse type thing - but have no idea who you would sell your product to. Does anyone know anything about this - or have any websites or books to suggest? Thanks very much!

I'm looking for a good shade tree for my backyard. I live in California, and according to Sunset we are in zone 7. I would prefer something that is evergreen and grows fairly fast.

I know that after growing Legumes (Peas & Beans) you should grow Brassicas (Cabbage & Broccoli) so they absorb the nitrogen left by the legumous plants. What do you grow after growing brassicas then?

I've grown and harvested chinese brassicas (pak choi and choi sum) what should I now grow in that space?

What should I grow after spinach?
