I live in Illinois and just moved in to a new house with a big brick flower box that was full of weeds. Is it too late to plant flowers? It's a large space, so I need something that is on the larger side and that will grow fast.

It's too late to plant seeds. You can still plant garden center plants but your choices may be limited since planting season is almost over.

I don't think it's to late to plant flowers, but you need to ask at a garden center the best ones to plant at this time of year, as for fast growing big ones that may be OK if you want to hide something like an out building or old fence but not your house, plant large plants that grow slow or you may have to have them removed at sometime sooner than you would like and at a high price. there are worse things than weeds plan ahead, think before you plant.

you may plant some flowers for next spring or you will plant some flowers for this summer time, yet they're going to must be rapid becoming ones. seem on the returned of the seed packet to work out how long it takes them to mature.

It's never too late to plant flowers! Buy a flat or two of quick growing annuals, you should still should be able to find a great selection. For color and height, I prefer asters which have a gorgeous rainbow of colors and can grow up to 30 inches in height.

I don't think so, but you could find out on a flower package it usually has the times where you should plant. Maybe you should just get plants that have allready bloomed insted of seeds. Happy Gardening

it is too late to start flowers from seed, but you can go to your nursery and buy annuals and load up your flower box. just replace the planting medium, my flower boxes are filled with spikes, sweet potato vines, coleus, impatiens, lobelia, petunias, vinca..... you will be amazed at how quickly they will grow once they have room. i rarely use fertilizer, but a little will help. good luck!
