There is a plant in my backyard that has yellow type cherries. The seed is the same and there is a cherry tree near that tree. Is it safe to eat?

Found this info for you:
__________

Royal Rainier a new red-blushed "white" variety from Zaiger; large, firm, yellow cherry with very good to excellent quality that ripens ahead of Rainier, holds well on tree, pollenizer required - cross compatible with Bing (U.S. Plant Patent # 10790)

Bing The leading commercial sweet cherry in North America. Large, firm, juicy, dark red, excellent quality fruit; the standard of quality for California's shipping cherry industry; spurs and doubles in hotter parts of Central Valley; midseason harvest, pollenizer required

Rainier large, yellow cherry; firm fruit with with red blush and very good quality; clear to light yellow flesh. Delicately flavored with extraordinary sugar levels, the flesh is pure yellow, very firm and finely textured. A premium niche variety that ripens after Bing. Considered a good Bing pollenizer. Vigorous, upright, spreading tree. Early bearing. Very productive. Needs a pollenizer.
______

That might explain why there is a "normal" cherry tree nearby too, as it needs it to pollenate the yellow one.

Hope this helps!

Yes there are. A web search for 'yellow pear tomato' yields many companies selling seed for these. I have included just one vendor link at random. They had a picture.

Yes, yellow cherries are quite tasty. Any berry that grows naturally in you own yard should be safe to eat.
