I was given a leaf from a African Violet plant. I have had it in soil , it's not dying nor does it seem to be growing either. I have it in a good spot for light.

My other African Violet plant seems to be growing very well.

I was told for the single leaf to grow I would have to put 2 other leafs with it. Which I did, but nothing seems to have changed with the plant. I have had it over a year now.

Any suggestions? Is it dorment? What is the plant doing?

Ticks are really bad this year in our region and they've made their way into our yard on onto us and our dogs. What's the best method for killing ticks in the yard?

I did read that you could dust the yard and gardens with lime, but that raised soil pH and we already have very alkaline soil, so adding lime would be a bad thing.

I have 2 maple trees that are 3 and 4 feet tall each. They are starting to grow off to one side, I think from the wind always pushing them. How should I support them to keep them growing straight?

I live in Palmer, Alaska. I've never see this kind of bug before. I first noticed it when i felt a "pinch" or "sting" on my forearm. I looked down to see this fellow. My fiance' was putting together a garden cart that was made in China. My first thought was it came outta the box. I ran inside to get my camera to snap a picture before he crawled away. It's size is approx a 1/4 inch in length and travels quite fast. The spot on my arm where it either pinched or bit me is about the size of a pimple, red and raised up. It itched at first, although after a few seconds, maybe a minute, it quit. However the lump is still there. Need i be worried? What is this bug? Is it from China? The picture coloring didnt show the gradual color change in its body. It went from a brownish color on the upper portion to a orangish near its tail, which came to sharp point. I have 2 small holes about the diameter of a golf ball and I've also got a larger one near one of the small ones. This one is about the diameter of a grapefruit and appears to have gotten bigger over the last few days. I think the smaller ones may be from moles but what would make the large hole?
