Put a cage around them and that should help. It might be necessary to actually create another barrier to keep your dog away because if he's as good of an aim as my dog then your tomatoes may still be in danger. My male dog killed just about every plant I had just by peeing on them and my females weren't much better digging or pulling them up. I just sectioned off another part of my yard with chain link fencing just for the dogs. My yard now consists of three fenced areas: a play yard/veggie garden, adult yard/flower garden, and a dog yard. I love it. Anyhow, if you get the gardening bug and decide to start growing more stuff then you might have to come up with a more permanent solution like I did. Good Luck

If you don't want to do anything permanent, like putting up a fence, trying putting the plants where the dogs can't get to them. I've heard of several people putting tomato plants in extra large flower pots, or even hay bales to keep bugs out, and if you do that, the dog may not be tall enough to bother the plant. They might wet on the pot, but that should just rise off.
I know ther are specific pots for tomato plants, that a a type of black plastic, and allow you to water the plants from the bottom (which is best for tomatoes). You might ask around at a local nursery, or garden shop.

Not only will the dog pee on the plants, birds will also pick on them as well as other critters. What we use to do to scare off these pesty critters was string up along the row of plants some pot pie foil pans or foil pans of any kind. They will move with the wind. The refection and movement and noise from the pie tins will scare off these pesty guys. Probably will work on the dog too. If not try a fence for the dog.

You can plant your tomatoes in a regular planter as well. A taller pot, wide enough for the variety of tomato plant you want to grow, then be sure to use a trellis or a cage to keep it upright and together.

There are only 3 options to do this... one is to chain the dog , the second is to put the dog in a dog pen or kennel, or make a raised above ground garden out of 2"x4" boards fill with potting soil or garden dirt and put a fence around it with a gate to get in. Dogs will stay out and you can have your plants

I know your problem! It's tough ain't it? Youreally don't want to chain up your dog, you don't really want to buy a kennel for him-blah blah.
But what I did was plant my tomatoes and built a fence around them. Mostly dogs, when given the big spac eof the outside, won't pee >right< there. So yeha, good luck/

Not having pets doesn't keep animals from peeing in your garden. Think of the cats, skunks, raccoons, etc that go galloping through there every night. I'm sure one of them takes a leak on the tomato plants every now and again.
Also, think of every other fresh produce you eat. Birds crap on it, bugs do whatever it is bugs do on it, and so on.
Just wash your produce very, very thoroughly.
Then again, if your dog digs them up, that's another story.

Sprinkle Cayenne pepper on top of the soil around the plants or even regular pepper should work.
