I read something about them giving off ammonia gas.
They eat leaf litter and rotting wood, nutrients found in soil and leaf litter, but isn't that just a way nature processes stuff, or are they a garden pest... or are they pests in large numbers?

We have been taking the trees out of our backyard slowly over the past few weeks. We were digging in the deeper part of the dirt and found a bar that looks like it could be silver or gold. Its hard to tell with all the dirt that has hardened onto it. But you can clearly see the word SAECO pressed into it. Has anyone ever heard of a company called SAECO producing a type of metal? Were just not sure what this is. How could we clean it with out damaging whatever metal it is?

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to plant on a terraced hillside located in Northern California? I am going to attempt to landscape it myself including mixing fertilizer with the existing sandy soil & all plantings. The plants, trees or flowers should be easy to manage and not attract too many pests (bees, gophers, etc) & not grow out of control too quickly like ivy. When is the best time to start this project? Should I attempt to install a drip system? If someone can also suggest a good landscaping book as well that would be great.

I planted a lilac treey 2.5 years ago and the first year was fine, still no flowers, but last year the leaves were starting strting to show holes in most and turn brown, some were even curled up and when I opened the curled leaf up, it appeared to be some kind of very small cocoon. Is there a way to prevent this from happening again this year? Also should I be cutting back any of the branches, or just leave it be?

I'm looking at purchasing about 130 acres. Most of the acrage is wooded. I'd like to let a logging company come in and clear cut about 80 acres. Can I set it up so that they'll removed all the stumps and clean up and regrade the land behind them rather than pay me for the timber? I'd like to make the 80 acres into horse pastures.

Thanks.

I have a detailed drawing but don't know what nasturtiums weren't around - And penstemons? And lobelias? And does anyone know what a Heavenly Blue was? Where can I look? The RHS site was useless and there are few gardeners around who remember 1941. Many thanks

During the summer months, I watered my lawn everyday. And during the fall months, I only watered my lawn twice a week, about 1/3 less water usage than summer months.

Yet when my sprinkler system water bill came, the utility company said my fall water usage is twice as much as my summer water usage! (My household water has another seperate bill)

I had a professional checked the meter out, there was no water leak. So I call the water company to ask them to change my broken water meter.

After they told me all kind of lies, they absolutely refuse to even test my water meter or repair it.

Does anybody know any county offices that can override the decision of my water company? (which is owned by the county.)

Any legal procedures or plumber who can help me to force the utility company to repair my water meter? Thanks.

Last year ordered through a magazine and three dead tiny plants arrived - hard won refund. Supposedly grows to 8' in a few months and produces 60lbs of tomatoes per plant.
Still seeing them advertised on Smart Market fliers, etc. Hmmmm

Please share any knowledge of them or your tomato growing tips?

I found a lot of info in *caring* for Muscadines and what to do to actually plant them, but was having to dig to find the *best time* to plant them. Would it be in the fall? Or is the spring ok? If spring, would it be early or late?

This would be for North Georgia.
