i have some small rock left over from my fish tank can I use that instaed of sand or gravel in the bottom of my Terrarium?also half the sites I read say that I should put moss over the rocks and then out the soil on, but the other half don't say anything about moss. Can I do it without moss? And if not does anyone have any idea how expensive a little moss is?
Thanks

I have a pretty large glass bowl that I want to start a terrarium in, but I do not have a lid for it. Will it still work? Also any one who has done a Terrarium I'll love to hear any advice you can give. I'm looking to do a really easy one with only a few plants, just to see how it goes.
Thanks

Okay, I want something that stands out, but looks good together. I want people to say, "I would have never thought of those flowers together, but that looks great!"
Any websites that I can go to that has pics of flowers that are used in gardens?

I bought a Dragon Fruit and saved a spoonful of seeds after reading about the interesting vines that form from this plant. However, I live in an apartment, so I cannot use a large planting vessel. And, I live in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, not in the Tropics, where this plant is native.

BUT, if I keep the final growing container inside, is it realistic for me to try to start this plant from seed? IF so:

In what growing medium should I start the seeds?
How deep should they be planted?
How often should the seeds, sprouts, and plants be watered?
How long after sprouting before I transplant the small plants to a growing pot?
What soil mixture should be in that growing pot?

Thanks for your green thumbs' help,
GCC

We didn't clean the sidewalks off in front of the house in time, now it's all ice, and the shovel won't go through it, will the salt melt it if we put alot on it?
What about buckets of really hot water?

I've been told its a climbing Queen Elizabeth. I planted it 2 years ago from a cutting (just a 2' tall stick), now it is about 12 feet high and shooting way over top of the trellis. The lower stalks are about 1-1/4" thick and even some about 6 feet up are as big as my thumb. Last year it had a bunch of blooms in mid summer, and then re-bloomed several weeks later. All the blooms were near the top of the branches. Also have a problem with aphids and black spotted leaves that tend to fall off and leave the lower portions of the vines bare. We are just north of Seattle WA and the winters are cool (just below freezing) and very wet. I'm very attached to my "salvaged" rose and would like to nurse it back to a healthy beautiful plant.

It's been 2 days and the roses have not opened up. In fact a few are wilting. We cut off an inch off the bottom of the stems after she got them, and placed all of the roses in a vase with a few inches of water on the bottom. No luck though. What do we need to do? And why did this happen?
Help...all you green thumbers!

I have an asparagus fern that is in a large pot outside and was killed by an unexpected frost about a month ago. I just left it out there dead and brown since, but I have now noticed that there are some new green sprigs.

It's in potting soil with nutrients and has been getting adequate water. I have excised all the dead parts of the plant above ground level and left it with just the tiny little live portion. Is there anything I can do to revive it other than just wait and see?

I decided to do some little projects (maybe no point in me doing this).

I am trying to find a bunch of Mints (just names, pics, and details).

I would like to know where they grow and/or are produced. For example some mints appearently were first created or found in one location, but some country nearby or not even on the same continent may be growing them and selling them.

I think some time I would like to also know a longer range of health benefits or home remedies,.. past that " wakes you up and keeps you alert". Like some boost your immune system and some help people with digestive (I can't think of the words but Gastro)... problems.

I don't expect anyone to give me so much. A nice long list of names would be the most helpful thing anyone could do.
