It's a symbol of death. But most people don't know this, so if you got Callas for Valentines don't worry about it, it isn't a secret message, they just didn't know. They are a beautiful and long lasting flower and a very useful landscaping plant that have developed an unfortunate association.
I live in a temperate area and have lots of secret places I go to pick flowers where things have naturalized. There's one hidden spot I go where a house burned down about 50 years ago and Calla Lilies have taken over a whole grove on the property, there are literally thousands of them. I go there regularly in the spring and fill my whole house with Callas from March through June.

Exquisitely beautiful and delicate, the Calla lilies will find a home in any Florida garden. It is a native of South America and belongs to the Araceae family. The word Calla comes from Greek and it means 'beautiful'. Although Calla is known as the 'Calla Lily', this plant does not belong to the family of the lilies. The flower is cultivated at home and in greenhouses for its beautiful, colorful blossoms. Long-petioled, basal leaves arise from the rhizomes of this plant. The inflorescence appears on a leafless long stalk and consists of a spathe and a spadix. The flower is actually a solitary and showy funnel shaped spathe that looks as if it is in the process of unfurling.

Calla lily is the common name for a genus called Zantedeschia. They are not lilies or calla plants but are named for their resemblance to them.
See here for photos of different calla lillies: http://www.zantedeschia.com/frame1.htm (go to where it says Zantedeschia photos)

Amazing...
Canna comes from the Greek word for Reed referring to the stems. The percentage of them are mixed and breeders have provided many sturdy and colorful kinds. Propagation by seed or roots planted after all danger of frost have passed and roots dug before in the fall and stored. They were popular in weddings years ago. The white meant pureness/ holyness. Some say death due to the beauty was used for funeral flowers. I love the Yellow King Humbert for its yellow and scarlet flecks. Beautiful in large indoor containers near large windows.

nothing, they are flowers, they have no real meaning. People have assigned meanings to flowers, but that's all bs. They mean you have pretty flowers, that is it.
