In 1959 We used to rent time on trampolines that were level with the ground. You need to put a guard over the springs to keep the kids feet from slipping through. The other guys who answered weren't using their heads when they answered.Of course you have to dig a hole first.I don't see the need for all the prep. one answerer suggested. Just grab a shovel and go to work. Have fun.

Like the other poster said, if it is completely level with the ground then there will be no bounce to the trampoline.
If you want it lower than it already is then mark the ground where the bottom if the trampoline sits. Dig as deep as you want it to sit in the ground. Put in trampoline. Put dirt back in hole. Done!
Edit: I just thought of a way to keep it level with the ground while keeping bounce. Measure out the trampoline, height and diameter. Measure spot on ground. Dig hole and put trampoline in. Do NOT replace dirt. As long as there is no ground underneath the bouncy part then it will bounce. You might have problems with erosion though and will constantly be fixing up the hole I could imagine.
Good luck.

You need to dig a hole with a mini-digger.
Assuming if its soemthing like 10 foot dimeter and 3 feet deep you've got no chance doing it by hand - thats 10 tons of compacted soil.
Plan a rockery for the waste or ship it to my house, i always need topsoil.
Put a couple of tons of scalpings or shingle in the base.
secure the trampoline in place as its likely the hole will get water in it and you don't want anyone to get in there.

If it's level with the ground, how will they bounce on it? Better to get a 'safety cage' to go around the trampoline, then the little bouncers can have fun in safety.

Hi Maggie
here it is first measure the diamiter mark it with an inverted tip spray can (any rental store like RSC will have it) measure the depth you have to dig. Next call your local utility provider tell them you will be digging they will tell you who to call for inspection (dont want to hit under ground pipes or lines) after you get the ok
then you can either dig buy hand or rent a small excavator to dig with. "CAUTION" the bouncers will still be prone to get their leggs caught between the springs and frame.
Note would recomend pulling it out every 2 months to inspect frame.
