OK I could actually turn off my water heater and use a camp stove as I live alone, and just don't was but one load a week, don't go out but a couple of times a week because of my illness and am desperately trying to cut costs. So some have said if I turn it to as low as it can go (vacation?) then when I turn it on again it costs more, kind of like turniing your car engine off, it takes more gas to restart it etc. but how does a gas water heater work and why wouldn't it be OK for me to use a camp stove for a month and see how much it saves, I'm either going to cut utility costs or have to do something drastice like ???? move, move in with someone etc. I am sick with M.E. so can't work to make more and many other things. Hope I have explained it well enough so that you can just tell me like: If you shut if off completely in your garage, it will ???/ If you turn it to vacation and then on twice a week it will ???? Save or not or ??? thanks

We currently have a big problem with Pillbugs. The previous tenents in our apt had a issue with moisture in the bathroom floor. Now that we moved in we were forced to correct the moisture prob but still have the bug problem. Im also worried about a mold issue. Our landlord refuses to do anything about the issue and acts like it doesnt exist. I wish i could just cut up the floor and clean it out but i cant. So does anyone know of what i can use in the floor to kill off these bugs?? We kill on average 15-20 a day. I have a 15 month old son and i dont want him getting into these nasty bugs. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

I would like to update our kitchen cabinets. They are just flat white right now, with the ridge on the bottom to open them. I'd like to add some knobs. Also, are there places you can buy trim or molding to attach to the fronts of the cabinets to give them some dimension or would they just need to be replaced completely?

My aprtment complex is brand new (2 months old) and my bill was 91.00 first month.

At the beginning of this month some electrical company came and did some maintanance in the elevator mechanical room on the first floor. I live on the 2nd floor, right next to the elevator. I mean, right next to it. I also noticed that when someone goes up in the elevator my lights flicker once. Could they have crossed wires and put the elevator on my meter?

It's a 3 story apartment building with a hydraulic elevator.

We had a mixer shower fitted in the bathroom, where previously there was an electric one. We were advised that due to the type of shower and the position of our hotwater tank, we should fit a pump, which we did. However, when we run the shower, and switch on the pump, there is absolutely no difference to how the shower works (which is ok) and the little indicater light on the shower switch goes out. If we dont use the pump, shower works exactly the same. We wondered if the pump only operates if it is required to, (ie if the pressure drops) or is it faulty?

I live in southern Louisiana. I have a big maple tree in my front yard facing west. I put a few inches of top soil and manure around its base closed in with some rocks. It gets full sun, but I can't get anything to grow there. I planted narcissus bulbs and only a couple came up in spring. I planted sweet potato vine twice and what the squirrels didn't eat died and never came back. I planted purslane and it died in a couple weeks. Not even weeds will grow there! My Mom suggested that maybe someone dumped ashes or something there, but would the effects have lasted this long? I've been living year 1.5 years now. What could survive here? I don't care what it is I just want something there. Thanks!

what to do or what it means when leaves begin to brown?
what does it mean when stems drop eg. plant loses its shape and drops?
some of my plants have a thin layer of white fluff is the only way i can think to explain it on the top of soil? is this bad? what is it? how can i get rid of it?
also i have some plants outside which are ok is it ok to keep using house plant soil for them.

i personally think i over water im unsure. i was advised to make sure at the bottom of the pot there is always water. but today i was also told that soil should be kept moist but not left to soak in water......many thanks best answer to someone who gives link or at least answers most of these questions many regards tasha....a serious plant lover... x x

ive only really heard of mustrard or clover...are they in the top 5?
also hear comfrey is a useful plant to create a liquid manure...but surely the tuberous roots and slow time to mature puts them out of the reckoning as a green manure.

Can someone give me a ballpark figure of mixing this myself versus ordering it (cement truck). I know it is such a small order, that it will probably not be worth the deliver, but then again, I really don't feel like lugging 10 bags from the hardware store.

It's a fairly large car so manual lifting is out of the question. I suppose a crane may be needed but I don't think I can get one close enough without destroying my prize roses.

Could explosives be used? Just enough to get it out. Then I can drive it to the street.

I've been told by my insurance company that I need to replace my roof. It doesn't leak, it's just old and due to be replaced. I'd like to do something "different" with it and make a usable space out of the currently unusable attic. I was thinking it would be great if I could strip off the roof and replace it with greenhouse material to turn the attic into a mini-greenhouse. The house is a 1930s craftsman and I live in San Diego.

I need to know if, first, this is possible and, second, if there's any chance in hell that it would be deemed okay by a city like San Diego. If not, what's the primary objection that the city would have with the idea? Are there any examples of other people doing this anywhere in the US?
