put a flap over the door, put in a treat or something the dog really wants...and he will go in..once the dog knows how it works and it is o.k., they will use it...trust me.

I built one many years ago that had a entrance section about 3 feet longer than the rest of the doghouse and it had a door coming in from the side and then another door on the doghouse front itself at a right angle to the first with a taller ledge off the floor---about 6-8 inches--- to keep drafts out. Just measure your dog's max width and cut the door opening so it just has enough room to get through the door...and face it away from any windy area like north or west. Build it so you can open the roof for cleaning. Worked pretty good and our Dalmatian was really comfy in it.

we use a very thick rubber flap door....our dogs have long runs with the boxes built inside a wooden storeage shed so the boxes are inside an insulated building. the boxes are large enough for the dogs to lay on either side of the door or along the back side opposite the door that way no matter which way the wind is blowing the dog can stay out of the cold. if you place the dog food or treats inside the box the dog will figure out the door.

Maybe you could build a little patio roof for it. It could be a little pergola that attaches to concrete block piles (the kind with the concrete block and two metal tie straps for a 4x4) to keep it from blowing over. You could then put corrugated PVC or aluminum over the pergola and angle it slightly away from the dog house to keep snow and rain away from the opening. It would also provide shade for the dog in summer.
