We had a mixer shower fitted in the bathroom, where previously there was an electric one. We were advised that due to the type of shower and the position of our hotwater tank, we should fit a pump, which we did. However, when we run the shower, and switch on the pump, there is absolutely no difference to how the shower works (which is ok) and the little indicater light on the shower switch goes out. If we dont use the pump, shower works exactly the same. We wondered if the pump only operates if it is required to, (ie if the pressure drops) or is it faulty?

I would say either you didn't need the pump. or the installation is incorrect, get the installer back (if you can) and get them to explain how the shower is better with the pump, if they can't, I would say you are in your rights to ask them to remove it and refund the money. (But don't hold your breath). I work for a company that would agree to do this if there was a chance they made a mistake, but I have never worked for anybody else who would!

The difference can be small, mark the spot on the shower tray / bath where the shower water hits the tray, then turn on the pump (use switch for pump) and see if the water pressure is a little stronger, water should hit the tray a little further away from the wall.
poss only 1/2 a cm. That's it. poss you did not need the pump? But sometime the pump can make the difference between OK shower flow and a good flow.
Also try the above test with the shower head setting on diffrent jets.

A shower pump is automatic in operation as long as the power to it is switched on, and dependent on the pump it should make a considerable difference to the flow and pressure of the water.

The pump is fitted with flow switches which operate and make the pump work when it senses water is flowing through it.

With power to the pump and the shower turned on can you hear it operating? If not there may be a fault with the pump.

The indicator light on a switch would normally indicate that there is power to whatever it is controlling when it is lit, if it goes out when you operate the switch I would suggest you are either turning it off or it is wired incorrectly.

As above pumps on showers are usually noisy but effective. Turn the shower on. Go to the pump. You should be able to tell if it is working or not.

Exactly as Captainflack says, especially regarding the indicator light! Even the smallest pump will make a noticeable difference, and some noise.

As long as the hot water tank is 1 metre or more above your shower head, you don't need anything more than atmospheric pressure (which is free) for it to work. Pumps and temperature flanges are a con.

Ouch... I would call her and tell her the truth about what happened. Then I would schedule a "date" to get together and spend 1-on-1 time with her. Like go to lunch, or have her over, or something. Give her a shower favor and maybe even a small gift (like the ones we use as prizes at the shower). Apologize big time, mistakes happen... Mom made a boo boo!!! Good Luck!
