I spilt a whole cup of red wine all over my carpet yesterday. I didnt know what to immediately do really when it happened other than grap a few wet towels and put liquid laundry detergent on the end of them and scrubed the carpet really good until the stains were barely , if at all visible in the carpet.

Then I heard a few hours later that "Resolve" carpet spray was good to use , so sprayed some of that as well all over that area and rubbed the carpet again with a towel.

I still think i am smelling that red wine and was curious if this will be its new smell or will it eventually go away ?

any further recommendations?

Thanks!

I'd like to know if this is a sign of cleanliness or obsessive.

I must have my house clean to feel totally comfortable. I like my house vacuumed daily, I mop w/ boiled water and bleach daily, cringe when I see spots on my windows and my skin crawls when I see dust.

Mind you, I'm not a weirdo who wears white gloves everywhere... I just hate seeing a dirty tub or toilet, won't use a public restroom, dont like dirty dishes in my sink and do laundry everyday. My idea of a clean house isn't just tidiness, it's clean walls, dusted corners, washed curtains, clean sheets, no litter under beds, etc. My biggest peeves are dirty bathrooms (water + germs + human waste= gross). I also throw out clothes that have stains and dont want my children (or myself or spouse) to wear anything that looks previously soiled or tattered.

So I need to know if this is normal and I'm just a clean person. Is this overboard? I want to not "over-do" things, and it's hard to know where to draw the line.

I'm trying to build some shelves into an alcove. I plan to line the sides of the alcove with wood as the surface is uneven (and the alcove not deep enough on one side). The problem is the skirting board at the back and sides of the alcove, which obstruct the lining. What is the best solution. Do I remove the skirting boards or somehow cut around them?

My daughters kids put gravel in her toilet from a fish tank in her tub that she was cleaning and clogged it which has been that way for quite awhile now. She has tried plunging as well using a shop vac which has not helped. She has even tried drain cleaners and some unclogging device. Anything else to try or is a plummer the only way.

i want to ground up a dozen bags full of various chinese herbs and plant matter into a fairly fine powder. Obviously I don't want to take all week doing it in a cuisinart or small blender. I've looked into leaf shredders but think it might not be fine enough. Though I don't want to spend a thousand dollars on something. Ideal would be some addaptation I couldmake to a power tool or some common gardening tool, something I could rent.

I removed the lint and dust from my dryer as well as the plastic tube attached to the back of the dryer a few weeks ago. I reattached the thin plastic tube however, I am finding that the exhaust is now escaping into my house. Is this exhaust harmful to my family if it's breathed in? Also, what do you think may be causing this? Should I replace the plastic tubing for a more sturdy one? Thanks.

I've noticed people ask similar questions on here about smoke detectors beeping only to receive glib, even rude, responses telling them that they need to change the batteries. Before anyone suggests that to me, I'd like you to know the alarm does NOT operate on batteries and is connected directly the wiring in my house. It doesn't even have a backup battery (not good, but I had nothing to do with the construction of the house and until I can get an electrician to change it out for me, I'm pretty much stuck with what I have).

Now that we have that out of the way, it is made by Lifesaver, and has a "Hush" button and a "Reset" button. I have pressed both. I have reset the breaker that controls the alarm at the breaker box. Nothing has worked. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? I thank you all in advance!

68 degrees fahrenheit and a breeze will cool most homes with open windows, at virtually no energy cost.

Of course I mean when people are at home and awake.

I live in MS and we have the mandatory concreate slab foundation and it is carpeted. The problem is that my husband is recovering from cancer and there seems to be more dust and a mildew smell since we came home from TN. It may just be the change in climate. BUT we are looking into maybe polishing the concrete and having it stained. What are the best "allergy" effective flooring options that won't strain our brains or pockets.

Thats right !!! Our home was severly damaged in a flood 4 years ago and it WAS declared a disaster area. Fema gave us $800 for a footer and never went under the house. Then they said it qualified to be bought out and after 4 years of government runarounds and the roof collapsing and FEMA not coming up with any more money we had to sell it and take a $40,000 loss !!! We never got a credit card like Katrina victims or any other assistance. We had to evacuate the premises immediately on our dime with no help from the government and relocate. We have spent nearly $25,000 bucks in rent waiting on them to say we don't have the money yet to buy your 49,000 dollar home !!! A construction company had been really pestering us to buy it and we got fed up and sold it. Now we are looking at foreclosures and bank repo's and home auction websites, but people with more money than us keep outbidding us on homes that we see and like !!! GOOD LUCK TO NEW ORLEANS AND MINNESOTA !!! How do we get help ???

My husband and I rented a very expensive apartment(last minute move) for 1 yr. The condition of the apartment was mediocre but was freshley painted. We have 2 young children but we kept the house pretty clean. We moved out this august and bought our own house but after moving our landlord and his wife refused to give us back our full deposit because they claimed that they had to repaint the apartment and their were lot of nail holes in the walls that we didn't take care of. Not to mention the addional charge for removing scratches from hardwood floor in living room.
My question is if I were to take them to court would I have a chance in getting back my $1900 from them or do they have the right to charge tenant for painting the apartment without any notice?

Some idiot ran the curb, and completely busted my mailbox. I wish I knew who did this so I could sue their ***. I am pretty sure it was the contractor working for my HOA who have been planting trees. I have already emailed and called my HOA. They are "reviewing" the damages.

The pictures are here: http://www.shahyan.com/mailbox/

Anyways, how much do you think it will cost to fix the whole thing? My insurance deductible is $500. If it's less than that, my insurance won't cover it. In any case, any help will be much appreciated.
