220 air condenser unit starts but fan does not run

Carefully discharge the capacitor. Put an analog ohmmeter on it. Watch the needle. If it doesn't move, it is opened. If is moves VERY quickly it is shorted. If it moves as anticipated the capacitor is probably good. At least it's not opened or shorted. Carefully select the range for a good reaction. You want to be able to interpret the results. Too high or too low a range will not tell you anything because the needle won't move enough quickly enough, or it'll move too quickly. Either way you won't know what you have.

The question has been nswered. Use an anolog multimeter. Replacement cost is $15.

Use a tester thru the service of an electrician if you don't have such gadget or you totally don't know how to do the testing.

Do it like the pros. Replace the parts until it works. Capacitors can have a nasty "bite"
